Brake service

Just noticed this week during my oil change that I have not serviced the brakes in over 40,000 kms.

Has anyone serviced the breaks on the kizashi's yet? If not, what are the repercussions?

Not to be an ass, but it's spelled brakes. Most people would not want their brakes to "break". ;)

Also, the lifespan of brakes really depends on your driving style and conditions.
If you live on a mountain and/or are an aggressive driver (accelerate and brake quickly) then your brakes will wear out faster and you will be replacing your brake pads and rotors more frequently. If you live in a rural area or even the suburbs with mostly highways and little traffic, your brake pads will last much longer.

Brakes are similar to clutch discs and that driving style is the key factor to their longevity. They both eventually wear out and are designed to be replaced. Aggressive driving simply results is these components lasting a shorter amount of time. My Kizashi only has 15,000 miles on it so my brakes are still good.

I'm used to getting 50K miles/80K kilometers out of my brakes, but that's with the way I drive and previous cars, we'll see if the Kizashi stacks up similarly. Also, I always have a manual transmission, automatics are a bit harder on the brakes.

Fixed breaks to brakes - stupid iPhone (didn't notice until you pointed it out).

Suzuki recommended that I service my brakes every 25,000 km. It includes lubing/adjusting the calipers and removing the pad glaze. They said it will help with the life extension of the brakes in general.

Just check your pad thickness. If you don't have any pedal pulse then your rotors are probably good. Unless you constantly ride your brakes you won't have enough glazing to cause any issues. If you don't see any fluid leaking from the caliper then most likely won't need any adjusments.

I agree, I don't think there is any need to service the brakes at this point. Especially at $175 to do so.

Just hit 75,000 km and I still have 6mm of pad left on both the front and rear.

Is it possible that after only 20k miles I need to replace the rear brakes? The guy tried to tell me the rear pads come with less padding than the fronts. Don't know if that's really the case but I don't drive very aggressively so to have to change them already is annoying. ESP when I was quoted around 270 not sure if that's including labor though.
