The Kizashi is sensitive to oil quality

FWIW, Honda switched over to 0W20 between 2010-2011 and now only uses a full synthetic 0W20. So if your Honda dealer is using 5W20 on your Honda, you're getting robbed.

Mazdas call for 5W-20 too. I think the main reason is for fuel economy. However, if it gets too thin for the engine, it'll burn up as some recent Subaru engines have experienced.

Meanwhile, the VW bus runs on 20W-50 during the warmer months.

Yeah, I'm sure all of that puffery is grand, but 20 will give better fuel mileage, They'd sell their grandmother for for a tenth of an MPG.

And I guarantee ya that's exactly why 5W20 is the 'recommended' spec weight oil for the Heep as well.

There are/were two different Suzuki p/n's for filters. The Made in Japan one and the Made in China one. I found this out after buying a bunch and one of them wouldn't even thread on to either the Kiz or the SX4...can't remember. Took them all back to the dealer and swapped for the Made in Japan ones which also cost more.
i had that problem also from some napa filters. there is two part numbers for the kizashi, and only one fits. the other one is too big in diameter to thread on, it catches on the exhaust or the block or something.

In my instance w/ the Suzuki filters, the Chinese put the wrong filter in the correctly labeled box. I had bought four, all w/ the same p/n. Three of the four would have worked the 4th one's thread was too small. Exchanged all 4 for the Japanese made Suzuki OE version.

I use several different brands of synthetic from the Wal-Mart private label to Castrol magnetic to Mobile 1 and several others. I change it every 5K miles. Try sticking with the Bosch filters. They must have a better check valve in them.
Interesting , while I have not noticed much startup clatter (now I'm going to listen more closely). I do get a clatter after driving 70+ mph on the freeway then right after I get off the freeway at the first idle at a stoplight. I bought a few Quaker State oil filters from Menard's and have used them for the last few oil changes. Come to think of it, I noticed the clatter right after the first oil change using a Quaker State oil filter. I was using Mobil 1 when I first noticed the clatter. The next oil change I used Pennzoil with another Quaker State oil filter and still have the clatter. I just changed my oil yesterday, this time I used Quaker State oil with another Quaker State oil filter. I'm going to switch out the Quaker State oil filter with a Bosch filter and see if I still get the clatter. Good stuff that clatter has had me worried.

Last I checked, Quaker State Filters were the cheap re-badged Frams. The cut-open comparison showed identical, cheap and crappy, construction.

I had a stash of Quaker State filters in a cabinet that also contains a spare motorcycle battery. I also had a container of battery acid for that battery in that cabinet that leaked on the filters so those QS filters are ruined. I had a Bosch filter that was not ruined that I installed. I took the Kizashi today for a trip on the highway hoping the change to a different oil (Quaker State Synthetic) and filter (Bosch Premium) would reduce the clatter after coming off the highway. It did not. Now, I don't think a change of oil or filter will reduce the clatter. I'm now looking for some better oil filters than the Quaker State filters that are not real expensive. I had kind of decided on Bosch Premiums and today's trip was a test run to see if there was any change of the clatter. But since the Bosch filter did not seem to affect the engine any different than the Quaker State filter, I'm hesitant on my choice of getting some Bosch Premium filters. Any suggestions? Purolator One?

Have you tried Bosch Distance Plus? These are the top tier filters by Bosch and are a bit more expensive than Bosch Premiums, but higher quality and designed for longer OCIs. I've used them and get no noise. Mobil 1 filters are smaller than the OE size, but work well for my Kizashi too. I'm currently using a K&N with no complaints.

Just keep in mind that if the clattering keeps up regardless of filter and oil combo, you may possibly have some sludge issues that's maybe slowing down oil flow in some passages. Synthetic oils will help clean then engine over time, but there are engine flushes that do the job much better. Not sure if possible sludge issues apply to you (maybe from previous owner if your car was pre-owned?) but it's well documented that engine flushes quiet down high mileage engines. Auto-RX is well regarded and I've personally used it in prior cars with high mileage with positive results.
