I attempted to tint my tail lights with Plastidip again. Better weather conditions today and I tried a different technique, but still wound up with orange peel everywhere. Even all of my overspray and test sprays had orange peel, so I must be the worst painter in the world to not even get lucky in one spot.
Also swapped in LEDs for the tail lights, reverse lights, and license plate lights. Unfortunately the 'CANBUS' signal lights I bought were apparently not, because they were hyperflashing, so I'll stick with halogens there.

Yep that could be a huge problem if he were to get rear-ended, especially since the rear-ender is usually automatically designated 100% fault.golftango wrote:People, please don't tint your tails.

I'm with you on this. I don't think it's safe, especially when it's done too dark. I've seen some tail lights tinted so dark, even the brake lights were hard to see at night. That's like asking for someone to rear-end you. I don't think headlights or tail lights should be tinted much, if at all. You're basically limiting the amount of light emitted through the lens to both see and be seen so it kind of defeats the point of a light. I'm down with tinted window (not a fan of something too dark though) but headlights and tail lights should be bright for optimal visibility for your own safety.golftango wrote:People, please don't tint your tails.

In all fairness, I was attempting to do it lightly, and part of the reason I switched to LEDs was because I figured the combination of tint and LEDs would bring it back to stock brightness anyway. The LEDs are way, way brighter than my stock halogens were. Unfortunately, they also cause interference with the only radio station I like to listen to. All the other stations I checked work fine.KuroNekko wrote:I'm with you on this. I don't think it's safe, especially when it's done too dark. Since I've failed twice though, that will be put on the backburner for now. I guess I'll have to grow to like the taillights. I just wish they didn't extend so far around the side of the car.
