I commute 120 miles/day in my '12 GTS. For the first 6 mos of ownership, I averaged 27mpg (85% highway at 75 mph/15% stop-and-go city)

About two months ago, I installed a K&N air filter, increased my tire pressure from 35psi to around 40psi, and took unnecessary "heavier" articles out of the trunk, console and dash (yeah, that was a bit much, but anyway)...

I now average 31mpg, and easily reach 35mpg on pure interstate driving around 75mph. I've experienced 22,000 trouble-free miles on Kizzy #2.

By the way, I mostly use my paddle shifters for brake assist, and basically stopped using them for take-off to let the CVT do what it was designed to do -optimize power and efficiency.

I drive 80 miles a day on the hwy an Im getting up to 36 mpg driving at 60 mph with cruze control, if I drive 65 it drops down to 33 mpg, lately I have been keeping up with traffic speeds at 70 to 75 mph an Im getting 30.5 mpg. Not bad at all Kizashi has 1000 miles on the odometer.

Nice I average 26.5 but thats only because of a empty road I take to go home its has 3 turns so I turn the AWD on and just floor it.

one week with mixed driving.....31.1 mpg. so far so good.

How are you guys getting these numbers?
Via the average mpg monitor in the dash or actually dividing miles driven by gallons consumed?

I filled up today and compared both figures.
The car's mpg calculator was about 3 mpg higher than actual mpg. A 2~3 mpg upward estimate by the car's calculator has been consistent in the last 3 comparisons.
Looks like the car guesses too optimistically.

But then you're assuming all the petrol pump bowsers are accurate too! I know here there have been tests carried out showing some aren't - even though there are laws governing them. If you fill up on a hot day (or with hot fuel) you also get less in your tank. There are so many variables.

I'm sitting on 8.8l/100km (by the dash computer) doing city / suburban driving with very little use of highways/ freeways. Going by how long it is between filling up, I'm sure it's pretty accurate. That works out to 26.6mpg. I rarely get to use 6th gear except in some 80km/h zones.

I'm sure with more 100-110km/h highway use I'd be up into the 30mpg area.

I'm guessing manual ("rarely get to use 6th") and I find it impossible to get those sort of averages in my CVT!

You can get better at a constant 100kmh, but go up to 110kph (both speeds GPS accurate, not speedo) and wind resistance knocks it down by a fair bit!

Yes, manual trans. I don't drive slowly to achieve those figures either, or load the engine up eg. I'm in fourth at 60km/h, sometimes third for 50km/h. I have however noticed it will happily lug sixth at 80km/h (around 1500RPM?) but normally I'd be in fifth at 80km/h.

The low rev torque / flexibility of the engine helps with economy. No need to rev it out to keep ahead of the average traffic flow.

Speaking of GPS speeds, I noticed the other day my speedo reads high (normal for most cars) but I was surprised that it seemed to be out by 3-4km/h at 60km/h? Has anyone else checked their speedo against a GPS?
