I saw that you went a different route, I read the link you posted. I will let everybody know what I find over the weekend. If that is true, then the previous owner definitely had them modded to be that way. Very interesting.
However, the position bulbs alone are too dim to be effective DRLs so I don't blame you for wanting to add a LED strip.
Regardless, keep us posted on what you find with the wiring as some are very interested in disabling the low beam as DRLs. I personally took a whole different route with this.

Here's some background reading about the same mod on a VW (city lights/markers as DRL). It details the process I described earlier:
1. Find DRL relay
2. Determine which wire from the relay sends power to the highbeams for DRLs
2. Cut that wire
3. Determine which wires power the marker lights (left and right)
4. Cut and combine both left and right marker light wires
5. Combine new marker light wire (step 4) with power wire from DRL relay (step 2)
The process seems universal so it's just a matter of finding the right wires.

Regardless, I like what VW did for DRLs in the Mk VI Jetta. They basically gave it its own independent bulb and reflector in the headlight cluster. This way, you can do anything you want without compromising other functions. The picture below is one that converted the incandescent bulb to a LED.

I researched some more and it looks like you might be able to swap the DRL and marker light pins on the headlight wire harness to achieve the same thing. This seems to vary by vehicle but it does work on a Mk4 Golf, which has the same headlight setup as the Kizashi (separate high and low beam bulbs, a marker light, etc)

Off topic but I was able to rewire my parents' VW to use the city bulbs as the DRLs by simply switching two pins in the headlight wiring harness. The VW uses the low beams by default so I'm not entirely sure if this is possible with the Kizashi's high beam DRL set up.
Anyway I'm done. We'll see what comes up over the weekend

Left is low beams, right is city lights

Great thread! Thank you!KuroNekko wrote:Here's some more info. I explain why position bulbs exist in the first place.

Great info considering a lot of us don't like the DRLs.bootymac wrote:Fixed the link (hopefully). On mobile with limited functionality

Makes far more sense just to defeat them, I hate the whole idea.
Has anyone gotten that turn off procedure to work? I haven't tried it yet, but it's written very poorly, not very clear.

I disabled them on my GTI to prolong the life of the low beam bulbs. However, I've noticed that other drivers don't always see me on the road now.Woodie wrote:Makes far more sense just to defeat them, I hate the whole idea.
Rewiring the DRLs to use another bulb is a good compromise, but I'll live with DRLs if it helps prevent other people from hitting me!
I thought it was law in Canada that cars must have DRLs. Maybe a law for the manufacturers and not so much enforced on the driver?bootymac wrote:I disabled them on my GTI to prolong the life of the low beam bulbs.
