Re: Engine and Transmission Assembly Removal for Head Gasket Replacement
I also drained the fluids before starting this project. Engine oil, trans fluid, and transfer case lube. A photo showing under the car. Splash shields removed, exhaust removed. 2847.jpeg Using an engine hoist and the lifting lugs to lower the engine to the floor. 2845.jpeg Here I used a dolly and a ...

Re: Engine and Transmission Assembly Removal for Head Gasket Replacement
It was actually really easy to disconnect the steering column shaft. Here are some photos from along the way. The engine and transmission assembly can't come out the top because the battery stay brackets stick out over the top of the transmission. It really wasn't that much more work to drop it all ...

Re: Engine and Transmission Assembly Removal for Head Gasket Replacement
It is nice to have space! It's actually my dad's place that I have somewhat taken over. I travel a lot for work and I don't really have a home location of my own or even know where home is right now. I'm looking at property right now and a 40'x60 or 80' shed that I can half insulate and heat. I thin...

Engine and Transmission Assembly Removal for Head Gasket Replacement
Has anyone done this yet? I am just about ready to drop the engine assembly out of the bottom. It comes out in one assembly with the engine, transmission, control arms, wheel hubs, shocks, rack & Pinion, axles, and subframe. I ran out of time last night to tackle disconnecting the steering colum...

Re: Solving an Overheating Problem - Caused Hose to Burst
That's a good point about the hose not being the initial failiure. I don't see how the head gasket could just go bad after 98k miles without the help of an overheat first.

Re: Solving an Overheating Problem - Caused Hose to Burst
I think the root cause was an overheat due to a failed coolant line. I called about warranty. Radiator and hoses are only part of the bumper to bumper warranty and as such, any damage caused to the power train by the radiator or hoses is not covered. Unfortunately, it's probably not worth me trailer...

Re: Solving an Overheating Problem - Caused Hose to Burst
Confirmed head gasket problem. I'm getting a quote to fix it and and also asked about how much cost I have into the diagnosis. The shop also recommended to change the timing chain as long as I have it that far apart. Not sure what I'll do yet. I also need tires on it asap so I probably will have 130...

Re: Solving an Overheating Problem - Caused Hose to Burst
Yes, the exhaust manifold had to come off to access the water pump. I couldn't figure it out so I took it to a local mechanic that I trust. He couldn't figure out this issue the first day either. Today he will be testing for a head gasket issue. He had to order some dye for testing.

Re: Solving an Overheating Problem - Caused Hose to Burst
I tried testing the water pump today by pulling off a heater core hose and also the upper radiator hose. I got no flow out of them after starting the car. So unless I'm missing something, I thought that pointed to a water pump problem. I removed the water pump, which was a pain in the *ss, and inspe...

Re: Solving an Overheating Problem - Caused Hose to Burst
Good point. I can't imagine the radiator is plugged. The car has 98k miles on it and had the original coolant. I had 2 bottles on hand because I was meaning to replace the coolant since the 90k mile service interval. I'll check the pump out tonight.
