Re: Engine and Transmission Assembly Removal for Head Gasket Replacement

Great! I'm glad it will help you. I have a little over 3000 miles on it now and everything is working perfectly. A couple of things I wanted to add to the thread: The cooling system needs to be bled properly or it will over heat again when you go for your test drive. The easiest way I found to do th...

Re: Engine and Transmission Assembly Removal for Head Gasket Replacement

I guess I should say I didn't find any head bolts for a reasonable price. I didn't check any Suzuki service centers. The one I used to deal with was a Mitsubishi/Suzuki dealer that is now closed and I had a bad experience with the nearest one to me when I was having them quote my head gasket repair....

Re: Engine and Transmission Assembly Removal for Head Gasket Replacement

Just a couple other key points here on engine assembly. Apply lubrication to all the rotating parts that come into contact with each other. I had some assembly lube left over from a turbo rebuild so I am using it but I have also just used new, clean engine oil as well. Apply it to all the cam journa...

Re: Engine and Transmission Assembly Removal for Head Gasket Replacement

It's progressing again. I've been balancing working on the white car and the black one. I took the engine off of the transmission and took it to the machine shop to verify flatness. They measured the block to be within 1.5 thou and the head was out by 9 thou. I decided to have them clean, machine, a...

Re: Engine and Transmission Assembly Removal for Head Gasket Replacement

I'll run a tap down the threads of all the head bolt holes before I put it back together. Just make sure the threads are super clean. It's hard to say what caused the failure but my stance on it is that it was a factory defect of some sort. It caused my coolant hose to burst because of the pressure ...

Re: Engine and Transmission Assembly Removal for Head Gasket Replacement

I didn't get the impression you are a pro mechanic so I'm in awe of your guts and technical ability. Even if you are, I'm still in awe. What did you use to clean the head? The piston tops look like they smiling at you. Thanks for taking the time to take the pics and share this. Thanks! I am not a p...

Re: Engine and Transmission Assembly Removal for Head Gasket Replacement

Good question on the head bolts. I don't absolutely know the reasoning for not re-torquing them but I can tell you what I think the answer is. A lot of head bolts now are the "torque to yield" type. That means that the bolt is torqued beyond the state of elasticity and therefore undergoes ...

Re: Engine and Transmission Assembly Removal for Head Gasket Replacement

Correct its is for the V.V.T. - It is the CMP The Camshaft Position (CMP) actuator system enables the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to change the intake camshaft timing while the engine is running. I got it all apart and cleaned up. My head is .009 out of flat and the block is .003 or .004. The li...

Re: Engine and Transmission Assembly Removal for Head Gasket Replacement

Just about finished with disassembly. I don't have any issues with the quality/design of the parts in this car. I've been impressed so far with the quality of all the parts I've inspected. The tensioner plunger seems interesting and superior to me. It appears to use the engine's oil pump to supply o...

Re: Engine and Transmission Assembly Removal for Head Gasket Replacement

Thanks, Ron! I typically wouldn't take all these photos and document it this well, however, I know there is limited info online for this car and I hadn't seen any threads for engine removal. It seams in the 3000GT forums I'm on that everything has already been done and there are multiple threads out...
