I didn't think the Kiz has "combo" rotors in the back - although it certainly could, that is a common way to do it. The other is to use a separate mechanical brake caliper as the emergency brake.
Either way, the pads/shoes can stick to the rotor/drum when left engaged in damp, freezing weather. It can be enough to hold the car in place even under power and make a LOUD "bang" when they break loose!
Auto Gear Shifter Feels "Crunchy"
From what I just saw in the service manual, the Kizashi simply uses a cable to actuate the normal brake pads in the rear as the parking brake. So I'll check this for corrosion the next winter or hard freeze. Or the next hard rain might do it too.
That was me with the broken shifter. Just saw this. Symptom was effort needed to pull out of Park. It was the interlock that gave. Dealer replaced the shifter assembly.
