This fits straight into the front interior cabin light and is very bright

These light up the cabin very well.

The rear cabin light is a festoon type ~ 36mm long. Something with 5050 LEDs is the brightest I've found eg:

RHS LED , LHS normal halogen. Fitted to (hopefully) improve reversing cam pic which can get a bit grainy in low light at night. They certainly appear to project more light rearwards.

No, everything works as it should. The interior light delay still functions, no static over the FM radio, no head unit display issues (WTF?!)

I've actually had a few different types of LED's fitted, virtually since I first purchased the Kizashi. These are the best I've found for brightness- it's like being in a very well lit room with the front interior lights all on. They use less power and generate less heat (I forgot how hot the T10 halogens get when I put one back in for a comparison- cue burnt finger tips and swearing )

Good to know! I used LEDs from DX on my other cars too but wasn't sure how they would get along with the Kizzy.

Do you have the bulb size for all of the lights? The owner's manual omits the size for most of them for some reason

Here's what I know so far. Correct me if I'm wrong:
- front dome: T10
- front maps: T10
- rear dome: 31mm festoon?
- courtesy lights: T10
- license plates: 36mm festoon
- glove box: T5
- trunk interior: T10

I've got a 36mm festoon LED in the rear dome light- 31mm would be a bit small IMHO and might be a loose fit? I'm going to try 39mm for the extra LED's on offer. There's a bit of flexibility due to the bendable nature of the end contacts.

All the others match up with what I've found. For the front door "courtesy/ puddle" lights, the right angle/ side throw T10's are perfect, for example something like this (due to the light fitting not having a reflector)


When looking, 3528 type LEDs are only around 6 lumens each ; 3050 LEDs are basically made up of three 3528 LED's- so give around 18 lumens each; and 5630 LED's are a lot brighter again but rarer in car bulbs. The Cree Q5 mentioned earlier is brighter again, but generates more heat and should be run with a constant current circuit for maximum life. The "colder" (blue tinged) white colours (eg 6500k or higher) give more lumens per LED than the "warmer" (yellow tinged) white colours (eg. 4500k or below).

Oh yeah, the glove box T5 is actually an old fashioned filament bulb. I always thought it was an LED like the front floor lights. I just need to work out how to remove it without breaking it!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/310613882281 - 39mm 9 x 5050 LED Festoon - these fit in the rear cabin overhead light. Some "manipulation" of the light's end conductors is necessary.

They look just like the standard halogen bulb (in light temperature/ colour) but use a lot less power. Light intensity is very good, it should be brighter than stock (but I haven't had the stock bulb in there for ages so can't say for sure.) Plenty of light output.

I've also updated the first post with some LED reversing lights I've just fitted.

High power LEDs actually heat up the same if not more than incandescent. Thats why you see heatsinks on a lof them. I use osram high power festoon leds for my rear plate lights and they give me very good visability through the rear camera.

Please do some research before posting such a blanket statement!

LED's are more efficient and do not generate the same amount of heat as an incandescent or halogen bulb for the same light output. eg. try removing one of the stock halogen interior bulbs (with your bare fingers) which has been running for five minutes. Then try an LED bulb that has a similar light output. * Do so at your own peril- I take no responsibility for any burnt fingers!

It's good to see they've finally got out a direct fit camera for the Kizashi.

how is 'high power leds' a blanket statement? any led like the Q5 (which is a huge heatsink) that classifies itself using wattage output cannot be assumed to be cool.

Way off topic again....

So, let's go the scientific route. I'll set up comparable bulbs (LED vs stock fit incandescent) and provide temperature measurements of both using an IR temperature gun. I'm quite happy to do that.

I don't have a light meter to scientifically measure the lumen output, but I can easily set up the above test using a variety of different LED bulb types.
