Well said. What's the difference, in your opinion, between now and the past 30 years worth of ownership?

Way too much complexity. It's not Suzuki's fault, I bought a much more complex car. But as far as trusting everything to work every time my $6,000 GEO Metro was the more reliable car. Some of it is government mandated, like the endless annoyance of TPMS and the obscene cost of repairing a car with eight airbags. Most of it is market driven, people want all of these comfort and convenience geegaws, every one of them is a possible failure point. The ten pages in the owner's manual describing the keyless entry system is astonishing.

Who was wanting one of these to dissect?

That was me. Based upon Woody's post #74, the lock module is even more complicated than I'd suspected, serial communications in a car... explains the purpose of the extra 2 wires...what could go wrong? That information coupled with the pictures posted from some one else's dissection, see post #10 viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4542 tells me there's nothing I personally will be able to do with it.

If you still want to send it to me, pm me...I'll have our electronics techs take a look at the components on the circuit board(s) to see what they can find out about it. Maybe we get lucky and they'll see a way to spoof it, making the ignition module believe it's installed and functioning while physically (mechanically) disconnected from the column.

Here's a clear instance where too much tech really shines it's nasty light. No knowledgeable, trained or equipped service personnel to effectively resolve the issue. The over-complicated, over-priced part was purchased, replaced and still no love. That thing will likely be the death moan of many a Kizashi in the near future. A car won't start, it's a pretty useless hunk of crap to have sitting around.

To all interested, my temporary fix with the steering lock hanging down under the dash and engaging but only connected via the electronics has let down and now my car wont start again.

I found this thread after a few other ideas didnt satisfy the issue....

viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4542

I removed the switch discussed in this thread and my car now starts everytime for a total of 44 and counting.

The part number is 3767058J20
It is just one phillips screw and you need a small hand to get into the crevice to access the pinch point on the clip.

If you do this you will not have ambient lighting when getting into the drivers front door, or the light on roof if you have it set to go on, or the door ajar icon on the dash for your door.....But your car will start.

Also I have seen on here where it was said that you can change out the steering lock to a different one and it will just work, not necessarily, so be warned, but i would try removing this switch first.
Good luck and thank you to:

ken.cope for the aforementioned post

The part is only $12.00 to replace and I will know in a few days if that completely and successfully solves my problem, but again now I have Kizashi that starts.

thank you for your time,
Bryan

Replacing that switch will put you right back where you were. The problem is inside the steering lock module. Disconnecting that switch just prevents the car from trying to use the steering lock module.

FIX!!! Re: My 2010 Suzi won't start *FIX*

Hello,

I fixed my Suzuki Kizashi by replacing the steering wheel lock assembly for only $270!! Watch my youtube video below. The part number you need it below as well. Fix, fixed for good! Kind of a ghetto fix though lol

The Frazer guys still had a pipe-line to Suzuki parts last time I was there (over a year ago). Ask for Tony D. in Service. They likely still have the tools since they were the only decent Suzuki service place around in southeastern PA even back when they were still selling Suzukis. The factory trained personnel who know what they're doing, on the other hand, are likely all gone. The Master -tech that was trained and worked on my stuff is def. gone.
Ron you are correct sir. I contacted them a couple weeks ago and have an appointment for tomorrow morning, the first available as he has one tech that can still do that type of work.....So Kudos to you for knowing where to send me.....On a side note, I still have the door ajar switch removed on the drivers door, the old steering wheel lock hanging down zip tied, and the used steering wheel lock from the salvaged unit wrapped around the steering column but not plugged in. While biding my time, I purchased two key fobs and two blank metal insert keys. I made an arrangement to have them pull the car in and allow me to connect the salvaged unit, then have them reflash the salvaged unit and all three keys and ECM so everything matches and is happy. Then I will reattached the door ajar switch and cross my fingers....he said they can do all of that including using my salvaged parts for around 50$.

I will report back here tomorrow afternoon/evening with good news if the car starts and functions as expected, but again, thank you for he recommendation, I have been really tired of the steering wheel lock hitting my shin, lol

This may be the issue. A new one is blank, yours was already mated to another car.
Woodie, you are correct, but all spent so far, I am still ahead a 150$, because the money I spent at the dealer was the removal and replacement of the lock, which I still would have spent....but yes buying a new unpaired unit would have saved me the aggravation.

thank you for your time and assistance,

By the way who wanted to tear one apart.....I should have a spare tomorrow afternoon, as all should be back to OEM standards.

I finally got around to installing mine. The first time I started the car it said "Service Steering Lock" or something to that effect. After that it's been perfectly fine, so maybe a brand new one synchs itself to the car on first activation.
