Azumi did the same thing to me this morning. I went to start my Kizashi, and it turned over just fine. About 15 seconds after I started her, the "Service Start System" message popped up in the instrument cluster. I immediately turned off the car, and tried to turn it back on. When I went to tap the button, the starter only cranked once, and the engine didn't start. To get the car to turn over, I had to hold the Start Engine button for several seconds in order to get the starter to ignite the engine.

I tried this a couple more times with no difference, and couldn't find any useful info about the message in the owner's manual. I could still start/drive the car though, so I decided to just head out to the car wash and ignore the instrument cluster. But within 60 seconds of driving away from my apartment, the warning message went away and hasn't come back yet. Azumi only has 23K-ish miles, so it seemed like it was a little soon for the starter to be going out.

I wasn't plugging anything into a cigarette lighter when the warning came up, so I'm not sure what happened. Just wanted to get this out there in case anyone else gets this warning message on their Kizashi, then it suddenly goes away.

Sounds like the car didn't detect both acc1 and acc2 for a second. I had my tpms turn on for an hour and then go away, so there may be some grounding gremlins starting to show up as these cars age.

Got the Service Start System message yesterday as I was about to start my car after gassing up. It started fine the next try, and the message went away. Heart skipped a beat lol

Hi guys,

I own a 2011 Kizashi SX (Canadian Spec), and I have been getting the Service Start System message for some time now but the car would start normally and run fine. The message would apprear occasionally and then not show up for a while. For good measure I did some research and I checked the ACC and ACC2 fuses and they are fine (not blown), the lighter plug in the center console has not been working though.

Today things changed, after putting the brake pedal down, I pressed the start button and the car barely cranked and didn't start. To get the car to start I need to keep holding down the start button to allow the engine to catch.

Any thoughts on what else to look for?

How old is the battery? It's fairly well known around here that a weak battery can cause all sorts of those nasty gremlins pictured above. If it's older than 4 years....might want to consider changing it out.

It's the original battery (5 years old). That said, I just returned from a local service center to test the battery and they said it was good 535CCA from the original 700CCA.

One question I had was this, when pushing the start button, how long do you need to hold it for? If I hold it for 2-3 seconds the car starts fine, however if I just push it quickly (like starting the radio), the car doesn't crank or barely cranks and doesn't start.

Just one hard press should be fine. Maybe the battery in your fob is dying? I would either try your second fob or hold your fob closer when you push the button and see if that makes a difference.
