sorry for these basic questions, but I have been lazy with maintenance as in I take it to the dealer (and to borrow a phrase) tell them 'to make it so'.
So, if I go with the Purolator is it: PL14477?

I wouldn't depend on used oil analysis. Blackstone labs never picked up the metal from a rod knock in my Accord until I heard it. Useless analysis said the oil was good, just change the filter!~tc~ wrote:I would not EVER go over the factory specified interval without a used oil analysis.
True, but this is supposed to be one of the most reputed labs in the US. If they can't do it right, who will?~tc~ wrote:Sounds like a problem with the lab, not failure of the concept
Agreed, but when the metal content was nearly identical for three oil changes indicating no excess copper (typically used for bearings)? I mean, there was absolutely nothing on the radar at all. I could understand missing a slight wear, but something that caused a knock? That's not a slight wear.Woodie wrote:Some failures can be predicted, some cannot.
That's what I was trying to say, it was not a gradual failure. There was nothing wrong whatsoever, until the bearing failed. No way to predict that.
