Are the automatic shifter indicators illuminated??

I just noticed that the strip next to the shifter is not illuminated. I have had the car for four years, have 152,000 miles and I am pretty sure it is usually lit up. It is not the brightness adjustment-tried that. Everything else is lit. Fuse? Blown bulb(s) or is it always dark???

(i will be giving her a good detailing soon-sorry for the dust/dirt)

It lights up when you turn the parking or headlights on.

There should be a bulb in there. You can access it by removing the shifter boot. If the light for all positions in PRND went out simultaneously, I'm thinking the same bulb illuminates them all and they aren't LEDs. I've had this issue happen once to my Impreza which was an automatic. I replaced the tiny T10-like bulb and all the shifter lights worked again.

Thanks for the replies

I pried off the trim piece, and then tried yanking the bulb straight out. I should have known better. A gentle quarter turn did it. It was working so I didn't replace it. Yesterday I replaced both low beams. One had blown out. Has to be the fifth or sixth time for that, I lost count. Maybe for some reason this caused the temporary shifter light outage-who knows.
