Im going to be going in to have blizzaks mounted on the stock kizi steelies with TPMS this coming weekend, before the snow really starts flying soon. I have a good knowledge of cars in general, but have never dealt with TPMS. Are they going to try to tell me the TPMS will need to be replaced/repaired when they swap the tires? Or are they typically good to not touch them? Havent had any leak issues thus far, and they seem to be working fine.
Another question, I plan on also snagging a second set of rims at some point for the summer tires. Would rather not have to deal with a whole new TPMS set. If I was to run without TPMS on one set of rims, what kind of issues would I have, could any warnings be cleared, and is there a preference to running TPMS on summer or winter? The thought being they could pull off the sensors and just install new stems on the snows, if TPMS is better suited for the summer, or whatever.
General questions about TPMS
Swapping tires is no issue for a TPMS. After all, they are mounted to the wheel, not the tires.
Running a different set of wheels without TPMS sensors will certainly set off the warning system. The instrument panel will flash a warning symbol in addition to the info screen displaying a low pressure warning in orange. It's something you'll want to avoid and probably worth getting TPMS sensors for in the additional set.
I personally don't have much experience with this all given I only run one set of tires all year as winter tires aren't necessary in my region. However, others here have two sets of wheels & tires and there is actually an extensive thread here by SamirD on TPMS and self-programming them.

The warning is not clearable, except for a few seconds at a time to cycle through your display. If you're going with only one set of sensors, I would think winter might be the better option due to temperature fluctuations and the possibility of corrosion causing a leak, but maybe others have a different opinion on that.

Hey all- Just had a tire valve stem on my 2010 Kizashi crack and the tire shop replaced the TPS during the repair, but wasn't able to program the car to recognize it...
Long story short, I WAS able to successfully use the "drive door switch" technique as described in other sections of this site with full success to relearn the replaced sensor. Got the car in to learn mode and just dropped the tire pressures one at a time all the way around the car to activate each sensor.
It didn't look like anyone actually confirmed they had success with this other than in theory, so for the future benefit of all I can report it worked fine!!!

Hey all.
I just wanted to echo @Scotty499's comment and compliment.
Since I live in WI and plan on driving my K-car until the wheels fall off, I've made an investment in a complete set of snow tires, wheels, and TPMS. After buying the wheels and TPMS (VDO SE10001HP redi-sensors) online, I took them to a local tire show where they mounted Michelin X-Ice tires on them. After driving about 15 miles, the dreaded "Service TPMS" light came on.
After reading through this tread, I also was able to successfully use the "drive door switch" technique to relearn the new sensors. Got the car in to learn mode (began with driver's door open, key in "on" position, and quickly clicked the door switch the requisite number of press/releases) then dropped the tire pressures one at a time all the way around the car to activate each sensor. I can confirm, along with @Scotty499, it worked fine!!!
It took me longer to air my tires back up than it did to do the TPMS relearn process.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this tread. I avoided needless hours of trial and error. I am indeed the grateful beneficiary of your efforts and expertise.

So cool you got the air trick relearn to get everything working correctly. If would have seen this sooner, I would have definitely met up with you and helped you out with it.
