'12 GTS AWD, after 20 miles AWD high temp comes on

So after 20 or so miles, the AWD temp warning,and accompanying flashing warnings appeared, (I wasn't in AWD at the time) this warning continued the rest of the day. I shut the car off for twenty min. Turned back on, sat in a parking lot and a few minutes later the alert reappeared. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Cheers.

UPDATE: car sat for 5 hours, when i came back out and started it the lights were still flashing.

I've never heard of this problem on the Kizashi. I have seen it pop up now and again on SX4s. However, those have an AWD Lock Mode and sometimes folks overheat the viscous coupling by goofing around in the snow and whatnot. Usually clears itself after a cool-down. Could be as simple as a broken or damaged sensor wire leading from the viscous coupler. Broken wire has been a reported issue by a few SX4 owners as many use theirs for mild off road excursions. May be worth a quick look underneath at the coupler wires.
