Kizashi Club

My Kizashi was in an accident today. A girl trying to parallel park to my left (I was in road lane on a one-way street) swiped my vehicle in downtown Washington, DC which has the worst drivers in the nation (Really. Statistically proven.)
The damage is not deep nor that bad, but I guessed that it would be around $1000 to repair given my prior experiences with girls crashing into my cars.

Took it to the shop that just popped out a small dent about a month ago (thanks to another careless girl) and they gave me a quote of just above $1000 for this repair.

Entire bumper needs to be repaired and repainted. Rear fender needs to be mended and repainted.

It sucks when you take such good care of your car that it was pretty much flawless and then some careless driver runs into you. I lost it and went off on her (this was after a 1.5 hour commute and already running late), but later apologized via text as she was rather sorry.
While exchanging insurance info, a parking enforcement officer yelled at me for being "illegally parked" so I also went off on her for not seeing that it was obviously an accident despite my hazard lights and very noticeable vehicle damage. No apologies for that dumb ass.

The BlackCat will be at the vet for a few days. I wonder what rental I will get.

Oh! Poor black cat. I believe if it happened in Vancouver, for sure, it will over $1000.

I understand your frustration...I make a point to park away from other cars as often as I can and my car is spotless...however, I HAD to park in a grocery store lot and even though I parked away from everyone, I have ended up with a small ding on the door. It drives me crazy every time I look at it. GRRRR

Kuro, that's truly a damn shame and very frustrating I know. The finish of your car is obviously very well cared for by the look of it in the pic. Hopefully the repair turns out un-noticeable and you will forget it ever happened. The wife's SX4, w/ only 8k miles, had a single axle landscaper's trailer (unattached to any tow vehicle...don't ask it'll scare you) bash through the passenger side doors right at the B-pillar. Many thousands of $$ later, all is perfect and I don't even think about it.

You actually got that repaired and paid $700!?
I had something like that happen to me a while ago and I consulted a few pros about it. They told me I had two options:

1) A roughly $350 job to fill and repaint whole bumper.
OR
2) Touch-up paint for $15.

It was obvious that touch up paint was the way to go given this kind of damage is nearly inevitable in a city like DC and bound to happen again. Even the pros said that touch up was the way to go.

I guess if you live in an area where you don't park in close proximity to others, then the repair may make more sense.

The good thing is that because of my accident, all blemishes and nicks on my bumper will be fixed.

These make sense in a city too:

My insurance company (Geico) gets me a loaner when I repair at one of their affiliated shops. That would be with Entrerprise and It's usually whatever they have available at that time. I've gotten a Nissan Pathfinder as well as a Geo Metro...

I moved away from DC.....

Washington, DC holds the top rank for highest accident rates while also scoring 51 out of 51 in state rankings in driving law knowledge among drivers (I read that in another article). This makes them the absolute worst drivers in America.

As this article points out, Alexandria and Arlington are just miles from DC (really just across the Potomac river from DC). Goes to show how bad drivers are in the DC metro area. Baltimore is also the closest major city to DC and is ranked 2nd worst.

Good thing the Kizashi has high safety ratings. I need it.

Note: I'm originally from California and learned how to drive on a mountain with cliffs, snow, ice, and fog occurring simultaneously. My driving is godlike compared to the average DC driver.

It's hard to tell from the picture but it's more of a gash than a scratch. It was caused by someone's front license plate bolt digging into the bumper while parking by braille.

The damage had to be filled and the entire bumper had to be prepped for repainting (no blending). $700 might seem high but maybe it's a regional thing.
