The manual doesn't call for replacing the thermostat and cap, just experiences from previous cars. I did test the cap on a pressure tester and it was about 4 PSI different from the new cap.
Hi, do you know how many gallons of coolant do I need for an entire coolant flush? I'm a little worried because it looks like coca-cola and it's almost empty. I'm going to use mitsubishi super long life coolant (premium).
Any Japanese Super Blue coolant will work as they are really all the same.
As Tom Kizzie stated, you'll need about 2 gallons. You can either get 1 gallon of the straight antifreeze that you mix yourself with distilled water to formulate your own coolant mix or buy pre-mixed coolant which you'll need 2 gallons of.
Also, sounds like you are describing the overflow reservoir. Let's hope the coolant in the radiator under the cap is in better condition. Either way, you should use a radiator flush solution if the coolant was neglected and rather dirty. This will clean out the cooling system better before you put the new coolant in.
Lastly, make sure you bleed the system of air bubbles when filling in new fluid.

Today I had a set of Nokian WR G4 tires put on the car to replace the Continental PureContact tires that were there before, and went so far as to pick up a 5th WRG4 and have it mounted on a lightly damaged (curb hit) extra Kizashi wheel that I had on hand to have as a spare (which the 2013's lacked entirely).

I liked the PureContact tires, though they did whine a bit as they got older. However they were down to 4 - 5/32 and the wet traction indicated that this winter was not going to be a good time. They have been replaced in the Continental lineup by the PureContact LS, which may perform similarly. However, being in Upstate NY, I decided to give one of the newer "All-Weather" tire designs a try for the upcoming winter(s). We'll see what I really think once the weather turns in a few months.

Learned something interesting I never knew about all season and snow tires. The objective of the tread is to hold snow not expel it as snow-on-snow provides pretty good traction.

Yup. It seems counter-intuitive at first until you realize things about snow, even from personal experience. Snow itself is quite grippy and picks itself up very well. It's why we roll a little snow ball around on more snow to make a big one. I also like to walk on fresh snow given it's often better for traction over ground that's been previously walked on or even shoveled. Fresh snow is unlikely to also have ice on it. Ice is the thing that really challenges traction and in the most demanding situations, you need more than rubber to grip into it rather than just on it. Having lived on a mountain a mile high, the winters sometimes demand chains and cables to provide that extra grip on ice, especially on hills.

Also interesting is that not all types of snow are the same. Dry snow is much better for grip than wet snow which can be quite slippery but in reality, you just can't treat any snow like dry asphalt regardless of what tires or drivetrain you have. Underestimate snow and it will drop your ass, quite literally.

Silver/2011/SLS/132k miles (lots of highway)

This is my second car, first one being a 2007 SX4 I purchased last year. Planning on keeping both, but considering the Kizashi has leather/power everything, the SX4 will see minimal use. I travel 450 miles every other weekend and I really needed something more comfortable. Other than discovering today that the OEM battery was completely dead when the car gave me all the possible warnings available after being parked for 10 minutes with the engine off and AC on, I really love this car and I plan on keeping it for a decade if I can. Looking forward to contribute to this forum.

Cheers!

Ordered a 12-quart case of more Suzuki green CVT fluid (to do the wife's SX4 and my Kizashi again at some point soon) from Fiat/Alfa dealer and ordered one of those damn roof rail x-bar caps that mysteriously went missing.
