Cleaned the MAS and throttle body. The MAS was pretty dirty. Probably mainly from me over oiling the K&N filter. Car has been doing some weird stuff periodically after decending hills. RPMS fluctuate for a few seconds. No codes. Also unhooking the battery overnight.

Ordered a PCV too. $31 from Rockauto! I have totally neglected that part and never changed it. Buying slow moving parts sucks. I remember the OEM one for my Chevy 5.3 was $7 from the dealer!

Replaced the PCV valve today. I had never even checked it before. After 141,287 miles there was zero rattle to the original one.

I suggest you guys check yours too if you’ve neglected it like I had.

Sold it. So I’m officially out of the club. By far the best car I’ve ever owned. The car I drove the most. As well as owned the longest.

Ah, sad to hear you had to let it go but I think the time was right given your other recent post.
Thanks again for your generosity with parts from your salvage-title Kizashi.

Boy that was quick. Sold it or traded it? Don't blame you at all...a running, rolling vehicle is worth far more than a 4-wheel lawn ornament.

Sorry to see you leave the forum. Thanks for all of your contributions.

Sold it. I ran the problems it was having past a mechanic friend of mine. He admitted knowing very little about CVT’s but agreed it was most likely transmission related. Then he threw a curveball at me and offered me $400 for it. He wanted it for his wife who works about 10 minutes from home. I told him as far as I knew the transmission isn’t rebuildable and if it goes he’ll own a 3200 pound paper weight. He said he was aware and that’s why he offered me only $400 for such a nice car.

On the 34 mile drive home Friday night the car drove absolutely flawlessly

He came over yesterday with the family and I handed the fobs over. I figured I’d be sad and while I wasn’t thrilled about it, it was time to part ways.

Like Ronzuki said. I figured it was better to get something for a running car then nothing for a broken car.

I’m off to meet a guy about a 98 Corolla with a MANUAL transmission in a few hours. I have a pickup payment now so I don’t need another commuter car payment. I will keep my eyes open for a manual Kizashi in the Western Washington State area in the future but even with a manual the price would have to be epic.

One of my biggest pet peeves is forum threads with no solution. So I’ll come back to finish the thread I started Friday if/when something happens to the car. Or it can be deleted.

Good luck to all and enjoy your Kizashi!

The situation sounds a lot like what my brother went through a few years ago with his '02 Subaru Legacy. It had about 135,000 miles on it and the notorious EJ25 engine in it had a leaking head gasket. While it was running okay thanks to some additives put in by a mechanic, my brother was told it was running on borrowed time with the leaks. He had to replace the vehicle with a minivan anyway for his growing family so he ended up selling the running car to Carmax for $700. I told him he could have sold it to a private party on Craigslist for a few thousand but he stated that he didn't want to offload known HG issues to someone who needed a reliable car. While his car and your Kizashi were more valuable than what you both sold it for, at least the buying party knew what they were getting and paid an according price for it.

Changed front and rear brakes and rotors. Last week replaced all four tires with a set of Travelstar all season from Amazon. $58 for an all season 18in tire? not a bad deal IMO.
