Something must have gone seriously wrong with that particular bulb. They draw less current than a traditional incandescent bulb, so normally emit significantly less heat than the OEM bulb. Perhaps Mazda have a problem with their electrics too- you'd hope a fuse would have gone before the BCM gives up?

Dodge is having some issues with their BCMs also. See: http://clubsx4.com/forum/showthread.php ... light=dude

apparently his HID ballasts destroyed the BCM... (quite amusing thread too!)

Yeah...it's called Chinese made crap. Zero QC. That's the true cost of 'cheap'. aliexpress should've been the guy's first clue as to where the problem started.

In all honesty it would be hard to find any LED bulbs (cheap or dear) that don't have some part made in China. You're often just paying more for the same thing.

That type of LED light is just some 5050 LED's and they'd have a resistor inline with each LED to drop the voltage/ current down for the LED to survive. Not much to go wrong- unless something shorted out? It could even have been bad installation in that particular car eg. the bulb design shorted out on some part of the bulb holder?

With the HID kit I can see how that could cause problems. There's all sorts of voltage conversion/ PWM switching that goes on in the ballasts. They could send spikes through the electrical system.

Yup. A lot of stuff that are sold by vendors such as Super Bright LEDs can be found on Alibaba or DX

I've had bad experiences with "ebay" LEDs in the past and since then, just decided to go JDM/Made in Japan or none at all.
While quality bulbs from Japan are considerably more expensive, they also happen to work and not cause problems like shitty LEDs therefore actually end up saving you money and hassle by working reliably and safely.

My Made in Japan PIAA position bulb LEDs have been flawless since I installed them over 1.5 years ago.

Next time I'm back there, I'll get some more quality Japanese LEDs for things like the door mud lights and the license plate light.

Made in China isn't the problem.

"Zero QC" is the problem.

The two generally go hand-in-hand.....

I have some very high quality Made in China products. However, they also cost considerably more than their lower grade competition.
You get what you pay for... at least most of the time.
