Every car I've owned has had some speedometer error. IIRC the federal standards allow speedometers to be off by 5% on the high side (read 5% faster than actual), but 0% low. I find that at 60 mph indicated, I'm doing 58 according to GPS.

i don't think the problem is limited to the speedo....even the fuel guage is inaccurate, the other day, the low fuel light came on and my estimated miles were "---", so i filled it up..it only took about 13 gallons, where as the tank is supposed to be 16.6 :?

my speedo is inaccurate too, dealer cited a regulation where up to 5% margin of error is allowable

I've had similar issues with my fuel gauge. I've never put in more than 13 gallons and I've run it as low as I am comfortable doing.

Maybe it has to do with tire size? If you put in larger tires than what tires the default speedometer was set at, the car will actually be traveling slower than indicated.

My maini gauge is about 5km/h fast, where as my trip computer reads same as GPS and about 4 to 5km/h lower than gauge. At least that may mean my odometer is accurate so it's not overcounting kays. My last car's speedo read 5 over as well, but it didn't really vary, meaning that at 60 ot was 5 over and at 100 it was 5 over. Seems like the numbers accross the range are out the whole way.
Wonder if the dealer is able to re calibrate the main gauge or not?

They should be able to. It would be nice to get this straightened out.

With 50 psi in the tires Speedo @ 78, GPS @ 77. seemed to be fairly consistant plus one mile all the way through the speed range.

The Wife should break 1000 miles today, Lovin it so far.

I got to drive it to Syracuse for dinner Saturday night. It rode great, but it's so quiet and smooth that 77 mph seemed very slow to me. I think she wants to fly, but we all know that that comes with the risk of tickets. :^(
I also love the headlights...

50psi sounds rather high and may cause abnormal tire wear in the center. The specs for the OEM tires is 38 psi.

My tires say 51 PSI on the side. I always run my tires at max on all my vehicles. I get better mileage, handling and tire wear normally.

2006 Escape 42 psi in fronts and 36 psi in the backs. 64,000 on first set of replacement tires
1995 GMC 75 psi all the way around. 71,000 on these and still good for one more winter( to be replaced next fall)2010 Kazashi 50 psi all the way around. We'll see...
