What crybaby feature is it missing? Only thing I can think of is backup camera.

I'm guessing things like auto-braking, blind spot sensors, lane sensors, etc.

High parts costs, or, simple dislike of the brand, is the only culprit. The newer Heep cost far more to purchase, had the same or fewer so-called safety 'features', and was the cheapest to ensure out of all our recent vehicles back to the Kizashi. All of this fair weather BS safety crap is only going add more unnecessary costs to a once simple repair.

Fortunately, the Kiz is remarkably reliable and thoroughly enjoyable driving machine. I figure what I'm not spending on garage bills and loss of use is just shifted to insurance...all balances out. Conversely, the cheaper to insure POS heep is no longer in the stable.

This. It is a beautiful car, and I do miss mine but modern cars have more standard features ment for safety.

If safety tech was really affecting insurance costs then a 2009 Toyota Camry should be more costly to insure than a 2019 Toyota Camry but is it?
I truly believe Suzukis are more costly to insure because of their orphan status thus lack of readily available parts.

I think it's the opposite effect overall. Cars get totalled now after medium level wrecks because of the cost of replacing eight airbags, some of which tore the fabric of the seats and headliner.

Yep, fact. Don't forget about deformed support structures behind the dash bags for instance. Early days of dash airbags going off, that was a big one. Some cars didn't look bad at all and were totaled. Neighbor was an independent adjuster years ago. Airbags go off and EVEYTHING associated with the spent bag and trigger circuit must also be replaced. Seat cushions, sensors, and a few other items. Parts and labor for that alone is astronomical before you even get around to repairing the sheet metal, plastic, and paint.

I used a hire car last year.
Brand new another safety feature is speed detection from the road signs.
