Oddly (?), I have never considered 'looks' when acquiring a vehicle.
Same with guns: "I cannot see it whilst shooting it".

1/13/22 96,457 miles, had the oil changed (and the check-engine light cleared).
The light lit on the bitterly cold morning of -11F. Dash said "Service EGR valve"; code said 'mass air sensor'; tech said "probably frost on the MAS".
But, all better for now!

I like your tech's approach . Basically dont condemn a part and waste customers money for a one time during extreme conditions glitch. On the Kizashi, the vvt controls valve timing overlap to take the place of the old time egr vale. Its a pretty trouble free system but I have had a couple of the control solenoids finally fail.
