So one of the projects I need to do this summer is fix the crack in the front bumper on Kitsune (my red 2012 SLS). First thing I wanted to do was find the paint code for my car. I don't have a picture of it at this time, but I found it at the bottom of the black sticker on the passenger side B pillar. I wanted to highlight this because when I searched the forums for the paint code locations, I couldn't find a definitive post anywhere that pointed this out.

Turned out Kitsune's paint code is "ZNB" (I found out later this is the code for "Vivid/Fervent Red" I believe these were the names for this shade of Suzuki red from 2010-2012 and 2013 respectively).

Next step was to find out how to get a hold of some paint that matched this code. Fun facts, the Dupli-Color spray paints that you can find at your local Walmart/auto parts store ISN'T going to have this color, and even Dupli-Color's website says they can't find this code in their system.

I was able to find a nifty little site called expresspaint.com. On there, they have a nifty little vehicle picker that you can use to find ALL of the paint codes for our vehicles. The screenshot below doubles as a link to the site. ;)

The site has a thorough FAQ about how to spray paint your car, and how much you SHOULD need to get a particular job done. I suggest checking it out. This site provides a variety of sizes from touch-up pens for scratches to whole quarts for anyone out their with their own spray paint gun.

A can of aerosol spray paint for JUST the ZNB color was about $25 USD. Note that this DOES NOT include primer OR clear coat, which you can also get through their site.

Heads up for you Kizashi owners like me that have a Snow White Pearl (Paint Code: ZMT) Kizashi: Aerosol cans of paint for this color is going to be closer to $50 USD because like most automotive white paint coats, Snow White Pearl is a "tricoat" color with a base color, and then a "mid-color" that goes on top of that.

STORY TIME!: I went ahead and ordered the "bumper repair kit" from expresspaint.com which included all of the stuff I "should" need to paint the front bumper on Kitsune. I also ordered a set of 10 extra paint test cards from eBay(don't do Amazon, they only have cards in sets of like 100).

I got the kit like within a week of ordering. It came with aerosol cans of Bulldog Adhesion Promoter, primer, clear coat, some tape, some fine grit sand papers, it even came with a couple of paint test cards. expresspaint.com warns you on basically EVERY page of the site that you should do a test of the paint can before you actually try to paint your car. They also send you a couple of papers in your order warning you to do some paint tests.

Anyways, I was super stoked when my order came in, except the sticker label on my paint color can read "Inifiniti/Nissan NAB Midnight Garnet" :o I did a paint test with a coat of the Bulldog Adhesion Promoter, coat of primer, two coats of paint, and two coats of clear coat just to make sure, and it was way, WAY darker than the Vivid Red paint on Kitsune.

I politely let expresspaint.com know via email the next day that they sent me the wrong color, and within an hour, they had replied that they were working on getting me the right shade of red for Kitsune. And the correctly labeled can of paint showed up later that week with a new paint card to boot.
