Hi everyone!

I have noticed while reading through the forums that sometimes it shows which users are online and using the forum. Several times I´ve noticed one of them being "Google (bot)" in different color as regular users and Mods.
Any ideas of what that is?

I think it's Google trawling through forum pages looking for info/ hits for their search engine- but could be totally wrong!

I thought so. The word "bot" is what is not very reassuring .
Google is everywhere watching. It is kind of scary.

Anything that says bot is a crawler.

This site has quite a bit of new content every day so the bot crawls at least once a day and it crawls slow so it shows up a lot of the time.

It is what makes the site show up in google. There are about 30 bots in the list. The purpose for having it is so that we can differentiate traffic. Occasionally bots can cause problems for servers if they crawl too fast. This site runs on fairly good hardware so we have never had any kind of problem other than the time I wrote a script for one of my other sites that massively slowed down the server.
