Wow. It seems to me that there is so much that could go wrong with replacing the frame. So many possible gremlins to chase down. Isn't most of that done at the factory by robots when the car is built?

Since the Tacoma is body-on-frame it's not of the same significance.
Like a big model car.....

Passed this along to him...thanks. He's getting ready to retire and he thought he was all set between his and his wife's car. Didn't want to get into any more new vehicles. At the end of the day, I know him, he won't keep it...it's been massively violated.

Yeah, I've heard a lot about the Toyota corrosion issues with their truck frames. It's unfortunate but it sounds like Toyota is covering the costs?

While I agree that having the frame replaced is a very involved task, I also agree with Weshoot2 that it's probably not as bad as it sounds given the Body-On-Frame structure of these vehicles. I once read an article on the Ford Crown Victoria and why it was favored as a fleet vehicle for so long by police and taxi fleets. The BOF construction of the Crown Vic had a lot to do with it, allowing them to repair and replace components far more easily than a unibody vehicle, especially after impact damage.

Toyota is going to cover everything. The post operational issues...who knows. Regular warranty is all gone on it.

The fact remains 2 stealership dudes are going to be tearing into everything on an other wise problem free truck and then reassembling everything when most can't change the oil in a car anymore without screwing something up. Let's face it, for a car guy and perfectionist, which he is, this will be devastating. I'd ditch the thing asap before the countless mechanic injected gremlins really start to drive me absolutely insane. He's already eye-balling the up-coming Ranger as the new ride. Ironically last year he had a 2017 Tacoma for a weekend when he was thinking of trading his 09 in. Absolutely hated it.

I can't imagine a car being reconstructed on a new frame by the average shop monkey without lots of sloppy details left in it. 2/3 of mechanics today simply don't give a crap.

Yeah, I'd hate to have something like that done on a beloved vehicle but what choice does he really have? I wouldn't blame him if he sold the truck shortly after the new frame goes in.

I've heard about a lot of people not liking the new Tacoma. It's apparently not very reliable too. Looks like Toyota messed up on this one, much like how Honda messed up the 2012 Civic. Hopefully, they quickly remedy the issues like Honda did with the Civic.

I'm excited about the new Ranger too. It's looking like a new version of the Ranger that Australia built which is quite reputable. From what I can tell, Ford isn't deviating from what it always was; a sensible and capable pick-up that isn't trying too hard to be one thing or another. It's not going to be some offroad rival to the Wrangler nor is it going to be another Ridgeline. I think it's coming back as what most remembered and appreciated the Ranger as. However, I wonder if there will be a more simplified version for use as a work truck. I know they are working on a Raptor version.
It's the Bronco that has a lot of people worried. It's evident that the Bronco will be based on the Ranger so it won't really be what people had in mind (like a new version of OJ Simpson's infamous truck). If anything, the Ford Everest sold in other countries will likely be the blueprint for the new Bronco. While I'm curious to see how that turns out here, I think many Bronco fans will be disappointed that it's not going to be like the Bronco they once knew. It will be more like the truck-based Explorer of the past, but closer to the 4Runner in capability. That being said, I dig the Everest as is so I'm curious to see what Ford will actually offer.

I knew about the tech partnership, much like with Mazda and Toyota, but I hope they actually co-produce vehicles before the inevitable shift to EVs. Toyota has global market presence while Suzuki is Japan's small car specialist, especially in certain foreign markets. I really hope Suzuki and Toyota team up to make a small BOF 4x4 and a compact hot hatch given Toyota has neither in the USDM but Suzuki has those in its portfolio.

Main reason is Suzuki to manufacture electric cars in India. Maruti Suzuki providing manufacture & design of basic car structure & Toyota supply design of ev power train. Cars to be badged Suzuki & Toyota.
