Bonneville Suzuki Kizashi BuildEvery year cars line up on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah during Speed Week with the hope of breaking land speed records in various categories. And this year there are two records in particular we have our eye on…
1) Blown Gas Coupe – The current record stands at 202.301 mph
2) Gas Coupe – The current record stands at 107.119 mph
We are announcing here and now that we are out to break them both with a modified Kizashi during Speed Week happening August 14-20, 2010.
It’s something Road & Track has been working on since May in partnership with Suzuki Auto, Project Coordinator and Engine Builder Richard Holdener and his crew Tom Habrzyk (Fabricator and Crew Chief) and Scott Bailey.
The Kizashi will be driven by R&T International Editor Sam Mitani, and he is confident that we will shatter the Gas Coupe record of 107.119 mph, and thinks we are a strong contender to surpass the 202.301 mph record in the Blown Gas Coupe category.
We invite you to follow along with us in a series of videos we’ve created that detail the Kizashi’s build. Look for a new video every day on RoadandTrack.com starting August 2nd, wrapping up August 13th — the day before we attempt to break these records at Speed Week.
We will also be reporting from the Salt Flats of Utah where you can see video of our Bonneville runs as they happened.
Last but not least, you can also follow our progress on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter in the following locations:

KIZASHI WORLD SPEED RECORD ATTEMPT(S).
I sort of wish they hadn't announced it and just gone and crushed the records, but if it doesn't backfire the kizashi will probably see some extra attention from the after market world.
They probably gives you some idea of how much it is modified...

I don't think RRM was in on this car. It was someone else.
