It is torque that kills transmissions. JATCO (the transmission manufacturer) rates the CVT model used in the Kizashi at 250Nm, which is roughly 185 lb*ft of torque. The engine in the Kizashi is rated at 170 lb*ft of torque, so there is very little head room for more with the CVT. Odds are that turbocharging will kill the CVT in short order.

I get about 19 miles/gal in town. Freeway trips I get about 32 mi/gal. I'm still using the stock tires; I'm wondering if new, better tires with low rolling resistance will improve my numbers.

LRR tires will almost certainly improve your mileage, but they will also reduce your traction.

Last tank: 11.818 gal of Turkey Hill 87 octane went 345.8 miles w/ 3/16 tank left yielding 29.26 mpg on mixed driving.
HUD info: 30.3 avg mpg, 75 miles range left on tank. 400 mile range after fill-up. Avg speed reported, the usual BS 38 mph.

I average about 24-26 mpg. 335 miles on a tank. I use Quicktip gas. Tried other brands, but the car runs smoother and is very peppy on this brand of gas bar none. BTW I have awd.
