with CVT models, 0-60 tests done in auto or maunal mode?

I love my Kizashi, but like others, I notice there is hesitation off the get-go to accelerate. Not a lot, and for normal driving it's unnoticeable. I also notice that at highway speeds, it accelerates JUST FINE which is much more important to me. I'm more comfortable at high speeds than in torque-related low-end acceleration trials.
That being said, when I read about 0-60 tests, (in the case of CVT not manual transmission) are they usually conducted in manual mode or normal automatic mode?
I really think the hesitation to accelerate is due to the transmission not staying in a low-gear-imitating ratio, and it's not all lack of power from the engine. When I go in to manual from 0 and stay in "1", (virtual "1") the pick-up is quite nice!
by the way, I drive it like a baby......only tested this once or twice...just want to know what kind of power is there in case I need it. Or really want it.
