What would you recommend for a solid flashlight that can help when working on a car? That's primarily when I need one.
I'd say the best place to get a flashlight for a really good deal now is Home Depot. The one near me is trying to liquidate their leftovers from the Black Friday sale. Home Depot has their store brand flashlights called 'Defiant' which are actually very decent for the price. They probably sell about 10 different models of flashlights and some are headlamps. I bought a few headlamps since Black Friday as the prices were too good to refuse. While they are not as good as famous name brand products, the performance is up there. It's the material and construction quality that differs.

Pick up one of these Defiant headlamps for convenience when working on a car. For an actual flashlight, get one of their handheld ones that at least has 100 lumens. I recommend the kind that has a single LED inside a reflector lens. Those throw the beam better than the multi-LED head type that simply create a short range flood of light.

I used to also own a Maglite 6D but I lost it when my house burned down in 2003 during all those wildfires in Southern California. While I liked it, it was no match to powerful (but expensive) tactical flashlights like Surefires that run on lithium batteries. However, these Surefires and other tactical lights are too expensive and too power hungry to be used as everyday work lights. Getting a cheaper "beater" type of flashlight like a Defiant from HD is better for work use.

The retaining clip fits in behind the keyed metal flange of the bulb (around the electrical terminals in a recessed area) - I can't see anyway that could possibly work on the VLed? The Vled assembly is a very large diameter behind the keyed metal flange. :?:

It does seem a bit strange, unless the Kizashi uses an unusual type of H7 bulb retainer?
I see what you are talking about. However, I believe these LED kits can be disassembled somewhat. Many of these kits, including other VLED kits, show that the heat sink and the fan can be removed. In fact, you can use the bulb without the fan if you chose as the fan is merely screwed on from the back.
Perhaps installing the LED bulb first and then attaching the other components is the key to having it all fit?

Look at this kit below. See how the fan can be attached or detached?
This model also looks like it would fit better than the VLEDS' model but I'd rather get it through VLEDS than some random ebay seller.

Thank you so much for the recommendations! I wouldn't have thought Home Depot would have been a great source, and we've got several around here so maybe I can pick up a nice headlight and flashlight while they're blowing out inventory.

I bought two Energizer branded headlights a couple of years ago. I have them in my toolbox and they've been really great for car work. But I don't have my toolbox with me since I don't have a real place to work on cars right now.

SamirD for headlights check out PrincetonTec, Petzl or LEDLenser. I've got a PrincetonTec Quad which is excellent for use on the car - it's starting to fall apart though after many years of use.

For really bright well priced flashlights check out this site: http://dx.com/c/flashlights-lasers-999/ ... lights-901 they make headlights as well, but I'm sure if the quality is up there? I've got these two: http://dx.com/p/ultrafire-kf-t60-ha-ii- ... 8650-57003 and http://dx.com/p/ultrafire-wf-501b-mc-e- ... 8650-39359 they're both impressive. The silver throws a narrow beam for a very long distance, the black one has a wider beam with a more neutral colour- it's excellent as a general use flashlight.

If you're after something even brighter then look at the Cree XM-L2 T6 equipped torches.

Keep in mind that the headlights at Home Depot will not be at the quality or durability level of Petzl, PrincetonTech, etc. but they cost a fraction of what those cost.
I picked up a headlamp at HD which is the same as the one below. The performance is outstanding. It's actually brighter than my Surefire which costs over 10x as much! However, this headlight only has one mode which is full power. Even then, for $10, it's an amazing deal and the bezel is even aluminum. This one is good for dark trails, caves, night biking, etc.

I also got these. They are cheap and don't look too durable, but for the price they are awesome. Great performance. This one would be good for working on a car, camping, or anything close quarters. You can't complain when the headlamp was cheaper than your Starbucks!

I didn't get any handheld flashlights as I already have quite a few of them ranging from very cheap ones to very nice ones like the Surefire 6P and Fenix TK15.

Great stuff! Thank you for the links. I've seen flashlights like this before, but I can't recall where.

Seems like the designs are similar, but the quality will just be less, which I'm fine with if the prices drops to match. 8-)

Hey, those Defiant 7s look almost identical to my energizer ones. :D

Couldn't get to Home Depot today, but I'll have to do it tomorrow for sure.

That looks like a nice flashlight, but the head is rather big so it wouldn't be as good for carrying around.
The vehicle LEDs from Rigid look very nice. I've seen some of those light bars on a Jeep before. Some of their smaller products look like they can fit in an air dam or grill space of a sedan. I recall that someone on this forum in Australia installed a light bar similar to what Rigid makes. The results were quite impressive.

With the head lamps/ lights make sure they've got some sort of voltage/ current regulator built in for the LED. Otherwise the light output will drop very quickly as the battery begins to discharge.

To quote PrincetonTec:
Princeton Tec lights that feature regulated LEDs have a sophisticated regulating circuit that maintains initial brightness as long as the batteries have sufficient voltage. Traditional lights are very bright initially, but immediately begin to dim and continue to dim until the batteries are drained. Constant Brightness is a term used to describe products that have regulated LEDs.
They're not the only brand obviously with that feature, but the cheaper versions are often lacking in such areas.
