PU had better results despite nearly twice the mileage and autocross use!
I have no doubt PU is great. It's what I've been using in the Mazda3 and the Kizashi for years. However, I typically saw about 1/2 quart burn off in both cars between oil changes. This occurred with both Platinum and Ultra in the Mazda3 and I've only used Ultra in the Kizashi.
I was never too worried about it, but was interested in trying Mobil 1 to see about burn off among other factors.

To get a little more back on topic, I have used Seafoam in the crankcase of the truck a couple hundred miles before the oil change. Haven't done it in the Kizashi. Using it to clean the intake and injectors really smooths out the idle in my 4Runner though.

I've done this too with my older cars. The drive after the intake treatment is always fun.

Seafoam is some interesting stuff that does good things in the gas, oil, or intake.

I've been changing oil every 5,000 only because it's easier for me to remember. If I extend that to 7,500 the cost difference would be nil.

Mine have never smoked like that

Not sure how you do your math, but in 15,000 miles (roughly one year), you save one oil change ... Hardly "nil"

He's factoring in the increased cost of using synthetic oil as he currently uses conventional oil.

Thanks Bootymac

Conventional oil here is about $5.99/ quart (Valvoline) x 5 qts = $29.95 x 3 times (5,000 mi) = $89.95 for 15,000 miles

vs

Synthetic oil here is about $9.99/ quart (Mobil 1) x 5 qts = $49.95 x 2 times (7,500 mi) = $99.90 for 15,000 miles.

According to my math this an increase of $9.95 for 15,000 miles using synthetic. When I subtract out about $9.00 for one less oil filter I come up with "nil".

Living in Hawaii can be awesome... until you look at the prices of things.

You can extend the oil change interval further depending on your driving conditions. I change my synthetic at around every 7500 miles because I often drive in city traffic conditions with a lot of stop-and-go. I also use my car for work, not just commuting to it.

Also, don't forget that the benefits of synthetic aren't only extended oil change intervals but better sludge, heat, and friction resistance. If you plan to keep the Kizashi for a while and pass it on to your kids, synthetic oil is recommended.

It's expensive and the traffic is horrendous but it's a great place to live.

I hope to keep this car a while. Thanks for all the input. Definitely switching to synthetic from now on. No reason to stay with the old stuff.
