2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata/Roadster Debuted

Today, the new Mazda Miata was debuted.
It's the first Miata to incorporate Mazda's SkyActiv design. It's also shed 220 lbs from the existing model which is quite a lot considering it now weighs around 2200 lbs.

Personally, I'm digging the styling. I wasn't too fond of the existing ones that were roundish and a bit feminine (it didn't help the stereotype of being a woman's car either).
Now, it looks more aggressive and reminds me of the late Honda S2000 which I liked.

I always liked the Mazda Miata as a car and now it looks like something I'd like to own.
What do you all think?

Not bad at all!

I'm guessing it'll have the Skyactiv 2.0L engine. It should be a blast considering it'll weigh less than the NB and NC models:

NA - 2,070 lbs
NB - 2,348 lbs
NC - 2,447 lbs

I see a little S2000, BRZ (hood lines), Z4 (arches), and Alfa Romeo (rear end) in that design. Not bad at all!

My dad had an NC, and that car was a blast. I can't imagine what this will be like to drive at the ~2,220 lbs they're estimating

I like it

Nothing compares to the original, but this looks pretty good.

So the 2.0L in the NC puts out 170hp while the Skyactiv-G 2.0L is 155hp. With the ND's diet, both have very similar power to weight ratios. I'll take the lighter car any day but I have to admit the 2013 update to the NC is quite nice:

I've heard talk of a possible small displacement turbo engine going to be offered, but that's just a rumor. I'm sure it will debut for sale with a 2.0 N/A SkyActiv. Other engines may be offered later.

How about the rumored Skyactiv-G 2.5L turbo? 295hp should move a Miata quite nicely :D

That would be nice, but I think they'd just put that in the Mazdaspeed3 which is the car it's being developed for.
The rumors I've read is of a sub-2 liter displacement turbo engine. It may be shared with a performance version of a Mazda2 that's also rumored to serve as a Ford Fiesta ST fighter.

I guess we'll wait and see.

Compared to the current model I really like it but every things still just a bit too small for me. The headlights, the tail lights, the entire car. I don't mind it but its not for me (but the idea of it is) :( I spent some time driving a '96 MX5 in the recent weeks and its plenty of fun but just too uncomfortably small for a 6'1" man with long arms and long legs
