Windshield washers not working properly

Just found something relevant to this thread- there are already check valves fitted! I wonder if they are prone to premature failure? Or the delay could be from the pressure build up required to overcome the one way valve inside them before the water can flow?

I think its frozen, I had a VW golf that did this when it was cold...

Quite likely that one way valve might be the first place to block with ice?
