Osram H7 65w bulbs
While they may not look like an impressive upgrade on a wooden door, I think the extra light output would be beneficial with more light down a dark road as high beams. At $6 a pop, that's a great deal. I'd consider any bulb better than the OEM stuff at this point given how easily they blow out. I'm glad I don't deal with them.

Yeah, you'd definitely want to have a high output harness for that.murcod wrote:Out of interest, Narva make 80 Watt H7 bulbs. Yes, heat and extra current draw could be an issue.

In addition to needing relays and thicker gauge wiring, the 80w bulbs actually produce less light than the 65w Osrams.murcod wrote:Out of interest, Narva make 80 Watt H7 bulbs. Yes, heat and extra current draw could be an issue.
"those 80w to 100w bulbs are a different story, and they produce less light and have a shorter lifespan than the Osram 65w item."
"Produces 100 lumens less than the Osram 65w, has a much shorter lifespan, draws more current and produces more heat. Lose/lose/lose/lose deal."

It's another option and those quoted output figures are dubious at best. (Second hand info with no manufacturer reference to back up the data.) It's also info from 2009.
PS: They're also talking about the Philips Rally H7 80W - it may be the same bulb as the Narva....

Yeah. Unfortunately there's not a lot of info about the 80w H7 bulbs. I'm seeing 2000 lumens being thrown around for the Philips 80w bulbs but no manufacturer's rating.murcod wrote:It's another option and those quoted output figures are dubious at best. The 65w Osrams don't have "official" ratings either, but we can safely assume 2100 lumens as it uses an H9 bulb
Do you know of a place to get HIR's? I'm intrigued. Wonder if they would last longer than the stock lights.KuroNekko wrote: I'm more impressed with the Toshiba HIR bulbs. I've heard about HIRs but never owned them. That being said, HIDs outperform HIRs and are probably why HIRs aren't so popular, especially given the rising popularity of projector housings that take HID bulbs well.

Out of curiosity, can you direct me to the type of capacitors that you are using for your LED kit.KuroNekko wrote:From my experiences, you guys are both right. Remember, I'm the guy with modded DRLs here and have LEDs that are MUCH brighter than halogens in DRL mode.
I was worried that it was too bright and the glare from the unrestricted reflector would annoy people, much like when you still notice the fool driving in daytime with his high beams on. That being said, it does not seem to bother people too much as the sunlight is far brighter than anything.
However, I have noticed that my DRLs can be too bright as it becomes dusk. As bootymac stated, the unrestricted light can get into people's eyes. I've had a few people flash high beams at me at dusk/early evening when I was running DRLs. I then knew that I should turn on my HID low beams with the projector's good cut-off.
Overall, I'm really pleased with the LED conversion kit. I really like the white LED output and it's much brighter than the halogens. They are also impressive as high beams as long as range isn't a huge priority. They work more like a full frontal flood of light than a focused beam. They are fantastic in a dark densely wooded area.
I haven't grounded the capacitors properly yet but plan to next weekend since I have to change my oil then anyways.
I really don't think the Osrams will be too bright as DRLs. They will be brighter than stock halogens, but nothing outrageous as DRLs. I know this from running other high output halogens as high/DRLs before I got the LEDs.
I have a small surge issue (high load, etc) and my led kit looks like will need it.

I looked into them a while back - from memory they're only available in one bulb type (not the right type for the Kizashi.) But you might have more luck than me with Google.redmed wrote:Do you know of a place to get HIR's? I'm intrigued.
