I haven't been around on here very much lately, but I have been on the forester forum quite a bit as of late. We have a 5 page thread on official Subaru mechanics putting 0W-20 weight motor oil in the new forester XT when it calls for 5W-30. (The NA engine take 0-20)

Unfortunately to maintain your warranty (at least in Australia) you need to have a qualified mechanic do the services.
I supply my own oil to get around them putting who knows what into it. Actually, I'm betting the engine is about 200mls over full - I supplied a 5 litre container and didn't get anything back. The Kizashi specs say 4.8l (and that would be if you let it sit and drain for ages.)

The first time it was serviced I did get the oil container back with some oil left in it. Supplying only the correct amount is a good idea.

In the states a lot of the suzuki shops were worse than the cheap chain stores. (partly why they failed here)

As a whole, dealerships here are the pits. Exactly why on every car and off-road forum I visit they are routinely referred to as stealer-ships by anyone who knows and understands automotive operation, maintenance and repair. A dealership can take a good mechanic and completely ruin him.

Over here, it's usually the chain stores that do the really dodgy stuff. Not that I'm saying all the dealerships are trustworthy. I've had problems with servicings done at a dealership (a Hyundai dealer.) They clearly weren't servicing the vehicle as per the manufacturer's specs and actually damaged the drivetrain of the vehicle through poor work practices. Even though they admitted doing the damage they wouldn't pay for the repairs!
