I have posted a few photos taken from a registration plate magazine. This demonstrates the business in the UK market. Some of the plates are so distant from the name they emulate it is ridiculous, however some of them fetch a fortune. The one I bought cost me about £170 plus admin charges etc (K15ASY). Believe me, that was an amazing bargain considering how close the plate is to "KIZASHI".
From the year 2001 plates have had the following format. The first two letters represent the area registered, the next two letters represent either the early or later part of the year (13= sept 2012 to Feb 2013, 63 = March 2013 to Sept 2013). In short, any of these plates are hard to identify as a "cherished plate", and purchasing them is almost a waist of time, despite the price some of them fetch. All other plates are easily identifiable as cherished plates.
It's a crazy market, but quite fun

To buy a plate in the UK, it must have belonged to an older vehicle, as the reg plates here indicate the year of the car. Unless you understand our plate configuration it is impossible for me to ask you for ideas. The closest I can find at a reasonable cost is K15 ASY, and even that will cost me the equivalent to over $450. Of course if you do understand the UK number plate system and want to spend some time having a look, let me know.
Well, what do you think
Well, I posted this thread some time ago, and I know those of you from the States thought it a little strange I should spend £300 on a plate that reads close to KIZASHI. My plate is K15 ASY. I have just looked on a website and found K13 ASY which is on sale for £3250, which after registration would be about £3400. In American money that is $5000. So what you may have thought was expensive, in actual fact was a real bargain. I don't know if you UK links work abroad, but here it is anyway http://www.regtransfers.co.uk/main/sear ... esults.asp
I love buying stuff when it's on sale as much as the next guy, but you could get the Kizashi turbo kit from RRM for that much money here in the US.paininthenuts wrote:I have just looked on a website and found K13 ASY which is on sale for £3250, which after registration would be about £3400. I presume you are joking. The number plate system is very different in the UK. For example S1 MON is worth over £1m. We can't chose our own plates like you, so any thing that resembles a name is worth a lot of money. Needless to say K13 ASY says kizasy, which is close to kizashi. You may think that is quite distant, but in the world of UK plates that is close. We have people here that do nothing but buy and sell plates. It is a very lucrative business.bootymac wrote:Any idea why K13 ASY could be worth so much? I can't think of what it could stand for
Wow, what a market. I hope it never gets like that here in the states.
