I'm in awe on how well the Akebono's wear and function. I just bought replacements from rock auto. The ProActs. For $110 total. They are sitting and waiting until I need to replace the originals. Mind you the originals have over 85K miles at this point. I'm totally sold on these.

I like the OE Akebonos too. They are an excellent combo of quietness, low-dust, long-life, and performance. For everyday driving, these brake pads are great. However, I've read others complaining about brake fade when the brakes are used aggressively like on a windy mountain road or on a track. I've also experienced the brake fade when I was driving spiritedly on a mountain. Seems like once the brakes get really hot, their performance degrades noticeably.

I'd say for folks who like to drive fast and brake hard, other pads are better. However, these pads will create more dust and eat into the rotor more. For everyday driving, I think these Akebonos are great, but I think I'll try the Akebono Euro or Performance pads next. I've seen BMW 5 Series owners praise the Euros in their forums.

Akebono offers three different types of brake pads.
ProACTs, Euro, and Performance. I'm quite sure the OE pads are the ProACTs.

I did experience that fading affect one time. Long periods of braking down inclines. This was while on my way to Lake George, NY. A yearly trip. There is one final leg where I have to go up up up and then down down down for about 5 miles. That is where I have experienced it. I was scared at first and thought the rotors had warped, but it went away just as fast as it occurred. My regular commute does have a lot of hills and winding roads (I'm in the PA Poconos), but I think engine braking is what has saved most of the brake wear. On a very long and steep incline engine braking wont do it alone so hence the heavier brake usage at that point. Regardless, for my type of driving and environment the Akebono's have been great.

Hi all,

I'm reviving an old topic since some links are dead/outdated. I'm looking to replace both my rotors and brake pads and I wanted your opinion on it. I'm planning to do this on my own. ChrisFix has a GREAT video on how to do it yourself and is using CarPartKings.com for the rotors and pads. The Rotors have a seal on them to prevent rusting which I thought is pretty cool. (I work next to a marina so the salt water tends to make things rust faster).

Here's the ChrisFix video:

Here's what I plan on buying:
Front Rotors:

Rear Rotors:

Front Brake Pads:

Rear Brake Pads:

Thoughts?

I have used the Centric rotors, not on the Kizashi, but on a few other cars and I feel they are very good. They always fit ok and seemed to be well made.
I don't know anything about the Centric brake pads, never used them.
I always use EBC pads. The EBCs dust like crazy but stop very well.

I replaced my original pads and rotors at aprox 50k miles.
For replacement I go the wearever platinum semi-ceramics (advance auto parts)

Supposedly they were as good as the Akebono OEM, but that is not true. They are very quiet, very low dust, but they don't have the stopping power of the original Akebonos, and to be honet, part of the car personality is the great braking it has. So avoid the wearever platinum.

I'm only 20K miles but it's looking like my rears need to be replaced. I rotated tires about a month ago and noticed that the rears were getting low. Soon after a noticed a squeak at low speed and now I've got a really bad scraping sound going on when I come to a stop. I'm afraid I probably waited too long and screwed up the rotors. Any thoughts on whether I should go ahead and just replace the rotors or is there hope for them? I've had the scraping going on for about a week now.

Hey guys, do you have any idea is the 2012 Kizashi uses the same brake pads/rotors of the 2010-2011 models??

I am looking to buy that set on ebay (I read good very good revies on them), but it says it is compatible with 2010-2011 models...not the 2012...

I believe all Kizashis have the same brakes regardless of model year or trim.

Hey KuroNekko,

Have you ever heard about those R1 Concept rotors/brake pads?
