I've used them before and indeed, the nut on the end can make them easier to remove. My only complaint is that when using them, there seems to be a little more clatter on start up than I would like. That indicates to me that there's some drain back from the filter and either the drain back valve leaks or does not exist. I switched to Bosch which has eliminated the problem. I have had no problem using a plastic cap wrench on the filter to remove it. I always just hand tighten it as directed and never have had a problem removing it.

K&N oil filters are typically regarded as top tier. They usually do well in rankings and quality comparisons. I'd put them on the same tier as Mobil 1 oil filters. The appeal of the K&N filter is the wrench-off design and the thicker canister walls for superior burst and puncture resistance. I personally prefer Mobil 1 oil filters and like using a cap wrench to remove oil filters. I find it the easiest of all the oil filter removal tools I've used.

Ah that's good to hear...since there's so many mixed reviews about their drop in air filters etc. I did purchase a new set of the cap set one should fit the smaller filter. Never had a vehicle with the location of the filter in that area i know they say should remove the aluminum heat shield makes it easier but the screws on that are rustyish that i'd be afraid to remove them so i thought having the one with the wrench tip in case cant get a good angle to start loosening it would make it easier. The price though is what's making me wanna change they're like 13 bucks.

I also use the cap without a wrench on it as it give a better grip for removing/installing the filters. I don't have to worry about over-tightening it, either.

So I know this is opinion based but what is or who makes the best oil filter for this car? I've always used bosch premium oil filters only because they use filtech technology which is the same company that worked with Honda back when they made their I think it was blue or maybe green oil filter that was from Japan and widely wanted by even people driving other brands like Subaru, Mitsubishi, etc due to it's high quality, durability, very good filtering while still allowing a good flow.

There are a million opinions, most of them based upon rumour or one event which happened years ago. There is an entire website where they just fight about oil and oil filters. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com

The truth is that oil, filters, and the engines themselves have improved so drastically over the past twenty years that it doesn't really matter that much anymore. Use a brand name synthetic and a premium filter from anybody and you're good for 10K miles or a year, whichever comes first.

I agree with Woodie that it's hard to really put a finger on what's the best. Most of the "best" oil and related products are hard to obtain anyway like Motul or Amsoil. I personally prefer to get top-tier filters that's locally available. I've been using Mobil 1 filters for most of the time and like it. However, it's physically smaller than the OE filter and therefore a bit harder to install and remove. I've also used the Bosch DistancePlus oil filters which are a grade above the Bosch Premium filters. The DistancePlus filters look well-made and are full-size. I think K&N oil filters are good too and recently bought two for the VW bus and the Suzuki motorcycle. I may try a K&N oil filter next time for the Kizashi which may make oil filter removal easier with its 1 inch nut.
Getting the Suzuki OE filter is always a good choice too, but unless you live near a dealership, you'll have to get them online.

As for oil, it's similar. Most synthetic oils are pretty good these days. I personally like Pennzoil Platinum but I know Mobil 1 is a solid choice too. If you're really keen on finding the best, you'll probably have to try different oil and filter combos and send samples to Blackstone Labs for a used oil analysis. However, given our Kizashis aren't high performance machines, I think using a decent synthetic oil and quality filter is more than enough to keep the engine in good order. In the end, making sure the oil is at the correct fill level and changing the oil at the proper intervals are usually more important than which oil and filter you use.

Isn't the oil filter too tight if you need a tool to remove it? I hand tighten mine and remove it by hand every time.

I typically hand-tighten, but nearly always use a tool to remove as it's too hard to twist off by hand with limited clearance and often too hot as I always drain oil from an engine that's been warmed up. In some cases with other cars, there isn't enough clearance to hand tighten adequately so a tool to tighten is better, but you just have to be careful not to over-tighten.
I rather have an oil filter slightly over-tightened than under-tightened given a loose one will leak oil. I find that changing the filter on the Kizashi without removing the exhaust manifold's shielding makes it rather hard to remove and tighten by hand, but a tool makes it much easier. Just have to be careful.
