Battery Size?

Anything related to the Kizashi can go here, but please look at the other headings first. Your topic may fit better under something else.

And yay! Battery died suddenly. :(

So looks like I have to pick on this from where I left off...

So here's where my research has led me in terms of the ultimate Kizashi battery...

An Optima Red top model 35 (not bci group 35) is what optima recommends. The Optima yellow top D35 is the exact same form factor as the red top, but is not listed as a recommended fit because their system shows the Kizashi needing 700 cca and the yellow top is only 620. The original seems to only be 680 cca (from a previous post in this thread), so a yellow top probably would be fine if you want the deep cycle version of the Optima.

The Braille B7548 is probably the ultimate agm non-lithium battery with an estimated well over 1300 cca. It should be a direct bolt-in too. Cost is definitely higher on this for sure at $340+, but the reason I didn't get one was availability--couldn't get one shipped fast enough as it has to go ground due to being a battery.

Interstate makes 4 batteries for the kizashi according to their site. The MT7-34R is an AGM battery with 800 cca. The MTP-24F is a regular wet battery with 800 cca. The MTP-124R is a regular wet battery with 700 cca. And the MT-24F is a regular wet battery with 600 cca. This last one is what puzzles me a bit because Optima shows the Kizashi needing 700 cca and yet interstate recommends this 600 cca battery. If 600 cca is fine, then the Optima yellow top would be a perfect deep cycle fit as well. The MT7-34R is available today locally, so that's the route I'm planning to take. I just have to figure out transportation first to get the battery.

BCI grouping for the factory battery is all over the place. According to BCI sizing, groups 42, 26r, 47, 90, and 97r will fit. The 26r and 97r work best since they have a positive right terminal. However, depending on the distance of the post from the edge of the battery, the terminals may not be able to connect as they are 90 degrees and only have so much 'reach' on the top of the battery. This will make more sense if you open your hood and look at how the positive terminal connects to the battery. I got the various groups by cross-referencing my stock battery dimensions with a BCI group table with sizes. Crazy thing is that the optima and interstate batteries that should fit exceed my factory battery dimensions, so there may be several other BCI groups that would work as well.

So I pulled the stock battery out and found some new information under the battery tie down--cat. no 24r-700, cca 700, load test 350, replacement model 24r-7yr.

Searching these reveals that this is a genuine AC Delco brand battery.

The interstate mt7-34r was a perfect fit even fitting in the plastic battery tray that sits on top of the metal tray. Both terminals bolted up without issue and it frankly fits like it belonged in there from the factory.

It's a whopping heavy battery, but has a nice carry handle that made putting it in place nice and easy. And apparently it's Interstate's top of the line with a 4 year no questions warranty. With 800cca, this is second only to the braille as far as I can tell for a higher performance kizashi battery upgrade.

When I initially connected the battery, the hazard lights flashed so I thought the switch may have been depressed inside. But I was only able to think that for a few seconds before the full out alarm was going off. And the only way I found to disarm it was to sit inside and put it in acc mode. I couldn't start it as I took apart some of the intake to make placing the battery easier.

The stock battery tie down's paint is coming off due to salt water? getting to it. I can't remember who made the billet aluminum one now, but I wish I had one to replace this one now. :(

Great additional info on Delkor. Interesting how the 'replacement model' number is a AC Delco part while the original one doesn't show in AC Delco's catalog.

Nice. 8-)

My interstate battery is still running strong dealing with negative temps in Chicago and now 110+ back in Alabama. Poor Kizashi has ran the gamut on temperatures!

So as an update, it seems the interstate has finally started to wane in power--or I've got corrosion on my terminals.
