I had this crazy idea for another tool-less tpms relearn procedure. This one requires a street that is straight and with an incline that will get you moving faster than 10mph in neutral.
So the problem with our car is that the relearn mode is only available when the car is static, hence requiring a trigger tool for the sensors since they don't communicate when stationary. And you can't move the car without starting it...or can you...
If you have a hill that is straight road, and the car can get into re-learn in neutral (don't know about this yet), you can simply let go of the brake and coast down hill. The sensors should wake up and register automatically. Then you just have to stop the car with the brakes (no booster), and make sure you don't have to steer (no power steering), shut off the car and the tpms should be done. It should take about 30 seconds!
So who's willing to try this? I'm trying to think where I have a hill nearby without any traffic or turns...but I probably should be updating the vt30 and trying it instead.
My Dealer-less TPMS Tire Change Story
I just updated the vt30 to the newest firmware. I should have some test results soon--hopefully with a fully relearned Kizashi. 

I don't know what I was doing wrong yesterday, but I couldn't get the car into relearn mode.
But tonight was a different story.
I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY LEARNED THE 4 TPMS SENSORS ON MY SNOW TIRE SET USING THE ATEQ VT30!!!
And it only took about 2 minutes.
Finally, the battle with the TPMS is over. And it works well too--one of my snow tires is low.

But tonight was a different story.

Finally, the battle with the TPMS is over. And it works well too--one of my snow tires is low.

Here's a summary of what to do to reset your tpms yourself:
1. Buy a vt30 for under $200. I bought mine at here, and they have coupons that can knock off another 10%:

2. Swap tires/wheels to your new non-learned set
3. Use the non-tool relearn procedure listed in this thread here:

4. Use the vt30 to trigger your sensors per the instructions. If you have any problems triggering the sensors, be sure you are using a FRESH battery and that your firmware is higher than 1.08.4 (this was a beta version they sent me because of the issues I was having triggering the sensors, but it should be going into production as there was other fixes as well).
5. Jump up and down and smile knowing that you just saved some bucks and the inconvenience of going to the dealership.

Once I get back to HSV where I have more tools and resources, I plan to try the air pressure and downhill methods of triggering the sensors to see if they work. I think the air pressure one will, which would result in a completely free option of resetting.
