This sounds normal from my experience, I don't know why it limits you to 4th in manual at that speed. Do you use manual mode a lot?FrankoLaMoya wrote:Alright I am now at 13 000 km and the gas mileage is still not good at all... I am now getting about 17 MPG since it's summer I guess... it's a little bit better than 14-15 MPG, but that is ridiculous. I've noticed that when I am driving 50 km/h and I switch it to the manual mode..it's in 6th gear... is that possible? Is this normal? When I am driving in manual mode...you can't go over the 4th gear at 50 km/h. Maybe that is why my gas mileage is bad .. Could someone else let me know if it's the same in their Kizashi? I have a 2012 Kizashi Sport (Canada) AWD CVT
Thanks in advance!
PS I have a maintenance appointment next month so I will ask them to do the fuel test.
Really poor gas mileage
The computer won't let you drop the rpms below a certain limit, so you can't shift into a higher gear. If you're not in manual mode, the transmission is free to select whatever ratio the computers thinks is best. When you take control, it's not going to let you drop the engine rpms to a level that will really lug the engine, possibly damaging it.
I am still averaging at about 20 MPG with my conservative mixed driving of 70% city driving (computer average speed of 20 MPG). Really disappointed when I feel I am seldom in a traffic jam and also looking at other forum members' numbers. But I will be very interested in seeing MPGs from other new yorkers who drive in the Queens / Long Island area for better comparison. I did walk up to two Kizashi drivers I saw in the past year and they both told me they average about 19 to 21 MPG. I also think the average speed on your dash display is a better measurement of how much highway you actually drive relative to city.

ipaqxman,
My experience is it is directly tied to your average speed, which is obviously tied to the time you sit in traffic or just at stop signs and stop lights. But, it is also tied to the amount of hills you are travelling.
My route to work is not bad, about 13 miles with 3 stop lights. There are lots of hills, but I am able to get decent mileage because I am on the move. On the past 4-5 tanks, I have been getting 24-25 mpg with an average speed of 32-35mph. This is mostly when I am just commuting to and from work. When I do other trips, like to the store, to the bank, etc...and I am "in town" my mileage SUCKS! Starts and stops...absolutely KILL my mileage. My last tank, which was a combination of driving around town and involved a lot of stopping and going I was only able to achieve 21.4 mpg and my average speed was 28 mph. If I am cruising on the highway or just able to keep moving, I can get 30 mpg. I just don't think the car does well in an idle state unfortunately. I think this car is ideal as a commuter, on the highway because I think it would get 30-35 mpg if you were moving at 70+ mph...

Oh I definitely agree with you. Taking off from a stop is definitely the most fuel consuming part. It's just I am surprised my "mixed" driving MPG is so much lower than others have reported and I feel I really am not in much traffic jam, thought there are a lot of lights and hills around me. But if everyone reports his average speed it would be a much more objective view of what their mixed driving pattern is like. Anyways,
I got 30 MPG once when I did 90% highway on a roadtrip, think average speed was at least 40 mph, but was still hoping for higher seeing others manage to exceed 30 MPG with pure highway driving. Lots of hypermiling too

why don't you guys try ethanol free gasoline.... The MPG you get from using ethanol free fuel definitely offsets the higher cost of the fuel itself.. Just try a tank and you will see.
Me thinks they are talking about foreign lands. Foreign to the US anyways. I believe it's law here to have ethanol in the fuel. Helps the farmers and such.ipaqxman wrote:I am not aware of any location that sells ethanol free gas. All the ones I have seen in NYC area have signs say contain 10% or more ethanol?
