Anything related to the Kizashi can go here, but please look at the other headings first. Your topic may fit better under something else.

:) .... and the brand name is about where the similarity in brake componentry ends!

Do Akebono actually sell (to the public) upmarket multipiston monoblock/ two piece calipers - like Brembo, AP Racing etc. Or do they just do "contract" type work for certain makes and models?

I think Akebono only works with OEMs to create brake components other than brake pads. I have never seen an Akebono aftermarket brake kit like those offered from Brembo or Wilwood.

However, Akebono is a premium brake maker. They also supply the brakes found in the Japanese Shinkansen (bullet trains) which easily go over 186 mph (300km).

Suzuki did well to get Akebono components in the Kizashi. In the numerous reviews I have read, one of the things people praise after the chassis are the brakes in the Kizashi.

I was impressed to learn that the Kizzy uses Akebono pads from the factory! Hopefully replacement pads won't be too difficult to source

Frankly, the replacement cost for OEM brake parts is too high.

I have found satisfactory performance with the SP Performance parts.

I'd imagine the factory pads would be a compromise between brake life, pedal feel and cold braking performance. There are sure to be better performing pads out there at a lower price (like Weshoot2 just pointed out.)

When it comes time, I probably won't replace my pads with OEM. They dust like crazy!

These are readily available at tire rack.

After 61K miles and still half pad on all wheels, I am definitely sold on these. The price to me is completely worth the longevity and performance.

They're actually very cheap compared to some pads I've used in the past.
