I can move it manually with key but it doesn't lock if that's your point. Should it be able to be?

The Trunk will not close. It started as intermittent issue but now not closing at all. First off a couple of presses on the manual release button under steering wheel seemed to "reset" the lock. I can still physically move the latch up. Wondering if it's stuck open and cause? Replaced batt...
