Final Update: 2012 Kizashi SE - Coolant / heating problem

So I traded in the Kizashi on a new car. Got a good deal on a 2014 model Q50 since they are trying to clear the inventory for 2015 models. Took a huge bath on the Kizashi tradein value of course. Sorry to see the Kizashi go, as it has been a great little car for us, and we took good care of it. But,...

Re: 2012 Kizashi SE - Coolant / heating problem

Looks like my follow up post a few days ago got whacked by the intertube gods. Summary is: 1. Tested using the UView 560000 Combustion Leak Tester ( http://www.uview.com/ ) No issues detected. 2. Compression test All cylinders within 170 ~ 180 psi, no obvious problem 3. New radiator cap working 4. F...

Re: 2012 Kizashi SE - Coolant / heating problem

Hi murcod ! FYI, I am kind of following your example on the reservoir cap, although not hooking it to the bolt where you show it (even though it seems the obvious best choice) until I get some stiff wire and a wire lug, as you have. I tried getting the coolant in the reservoir to slosh exactly as yo...

OP Update: 2012 Kizashi SE - Coolant / heating problem

So a couple of weeks ago, we did a leak-down test: Engine was cold. For each cylinder in turn, we raised to Top Dead Center using the access hole through the right front wheel well to the crankshaft nut, and connected our homebuilt leak-down tester to the spark plug hole The homebuilt tool was rigge...

Re: 2012 Kizashi SE - Coolant / heating problem

Thanks. I am going to do a leakdown test within the next few days, before I make the HG replace decision. I am also going to try to talk to the local (former) Suzuki service manager about tech options (eg engine swap ?) I do like the car and want to get some more years out of it. Leaving aside repai...

Re: 2012 Kizashi SE - Coolant / heating problem

Thanks all.

Regarding the reservoir cap blowing off: one theory is that the HG failure is such that I am getting engine pressures out there through the coolant system.

Thanks ! I was searching through the service manual just now, and found a reference to the service hole you mention. Perfect !

Cheers.

Re: 2012 Kizashi SE - Coolant / heating problem

Thanks, but I think I am into a head gasket replace at minimum. I will try a few things over the next few days to confirm that. At any rate, not the end of the world, especially if the engine is salvageable. I need to see if there is a way to determine whether any local (former) Suzuki shops have an...

How to turn engine to get piston to TDC

Any tricks to turning the engine to position a piston to top dead center ? Is there a nut on the end of the crankshaft that is accessible to do so ?

Re: 2012 Kizashi SE - Coolant / heating problem

The rubber seals on the radiator cap seem to be okay, but once I get the replacement, I will have a better point of comparison.

I am concerned that I have an engine issue, and I will try to determine what I can do about that. Head only ? Full engine replacement ?
