I say just install a set of real mud flaps to cover the damage, and call it a day.

Well, ESPECIALLY after reading the cost of parts, I decided to take another look at what I had. I did manage to get it reinstalled, although I suppose if I hit something with it again, the strake is a gonner. If that happens, I will probably try to do as Marcov71 suggests and put some real mud flaps back there.
