That would be perfect since your car is a twin of ours. 8-) When's it thaw out up there?

Your guess is as good as mine. April is usually kind of tame, aside from a rogue snowstorm or two every once in awhile.

Ah, so not much different than MKE. I'll definitely be in touch. 8-)

I noticed a noise from mine last year when getting off the freeway and stopping at the first stoplight. At the stoplight at an idle I could hear a ticking. When first hearing it I pulled into a parking lot and popped the hood expecting to find a damaged belt. Found nothing wrong with the belt or pulleys, my second guess was a valve lifter on the passenger side. Since I could not tear into the valvetrain at that moment I continued my trip. As I drove the noise went away and did not notice the noise while idleing at other stoplights. I still hear that ticking right after driving at a steady 75-80 mph for a few (10+) miles then stopping down to an idle. Within a few miles of driving at a lower speed the ticking goes away.

Interesting. That sounds like a function of the oil since the increase in temperature when operating at 70-80 would be enough to change the properties of the oil.

imo a tick of any sort is never good, so I'd try different oils until you find the one that doesn't tick--and then be sure to share it with the rest of us. 8-)

A little of an update on our tick. Since our new parking garage neighbor has a Kizashi, I asked if I could listen to her start it and listen to the engine. She was kind enough to let me. :) Unfortunately, it solidified my fears that our engine has an unusual tick to it, which in my listening with the scope, does sound like some sort of slight piston noise in cylinder #2 (the same noise I've heard from the start of this thread).

Luckily, I was able to help my fellow Kizashi owner as I heard the tell-tale longer start and found the factory battery in there on her 2010 model. I showed her my Interstate battery and recommended her to replace it asap before it leaves her stranded in the snow now that it's here.

yours is smooth and quiet because of the manual tranny

the cvts drop the rpm as low as 1200 during light to moderate acceleration and that causes the deep rumble ('diesel sound').

guys, nothing to do about it ... either drive with feather-light foot slower than a granny would or hammer it a bit :)
I was thinking this as well, but how it was discussed made it sound like the engine itself.
My observations as well.

It amazed me how much more noise our Kizashi made than our neighbor's. I think there may even be a pulley that is making noise in addition to the piston/valvetrain noise that's more than my neighbor's.

There is a service interval for valve adjustment. Are you sure it's not just a little valve noise that would go away with a valve adjustment?

I listened to it closely a few days ago after coming back home. There's definitely some valvetrain noise as well because it doesn't always match the piston noise. But there's definitely a slight knock that I can detect. I need a group of Kizashi owners to gather around it and listen and see if it's just me or they can hear it too. Then I'll know for sure.

Crazy thing is that this noise has been there since we bought the car with 28k on it. It was only subtle at first and goes away for 5 minutes after starting with a fresh oil change. But then it comes back. It's worse with cold too.
