Do a search on "equalization charging" and you'll find some info on reversing sulfation too. Basically you can pump up the charge voltage (on non sealed wet cell batteries) and it can help reverse early stages of sulfation.

Be very careful when playing with batteries.... it's not something you want to do unless you know the risks and dangers.
Which model was this? I never heard of any problems with their top of the line when I got it. :?:

Yes, and be very careful with batteries. Be sure to read all the caution and warning literature with chargers, as well as the environmental requirements--temperature, humidity, etc.

I once arced the positive and negative terminals using an wrench. Luckily it touched for a second and I didn't feel any voltage, but it almost instantly welded the wrench to the terminal.

The Cteks were both one of their smaller models (MXS 3.8 or older equivalent?)- ironically they were both identical models too. Personally, I think they try to cram too much into a small package. That results in the heat having nowhere to go and any electronic component's life will be reduced from that. They also seem to recommend chargers that are very small for any given A/H battery- once again that will mean the charger will struggle and be running longer than it should.

PS: I think I've actually thrown them out, but I kept the nice alligator leads and quick disconnect terminals off them

Yeah, I think their smaller ones were a completely different class of product. I didn't like them and initially was hesitant on getting their top of the line one.

Weren't their alligators proprietary? I know mine don't work with my battery tender branded ones.
