CVT

Anything related to the Kizashi can go here, but please look at the other headings first. Your topic may fit better under something else.

Very cool. I didn't know about this and had to read up on it: http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2007/05/03/b ... ssion-cvt/

CVT's certainly don't display that advantage in the real world.

Some of the Kizashi acceleration figures I've read seem very optimistic. eg. I can't see a manual Kizashi getting anywhere close to the 7 second area for 0-100km/h.
While the manual gearbox Kizashi can do the 0-100 km/h stint in a matter of 7.8 seconds, the Kizashi with the CVT can do the same in 8.8 seconds.

Edit:

It get's better!
As for the sprint time, the Suzuki Kizashi can blast forward from 0-100 km/h in just 7.4 seconds.

We timed 0-100km/h and the Honda slightly edges out in front; 8.8 seconds versus 9.1 seconds.

Performance, though, feels decent rather than special (Drive recorded 9.4 seconds on the stopwatch for the 0-100km/h sprint),

CVT technology can improve both performance AND mileage. It's all in the tuning
Maybe you're not getting the point here. The Porsche PDK is NOT a CVT. it's a manual transmission which is shifted by the car's powertrain computer.

Please, let's not go back to this fairy tale again, that's simply not true. CVT was banned because the FIA (quite rightly) wants the driver to control the car. They also banned DSG style transmissions, and launch control, and anti-lock brakes, and active suspension

This sentence in that "article" is total fabrication, it is not proof of anything: "There was also speculation that it had instantly proved several seconds per lap quicker than the conventional Williams". Someone writes opinion in an online blog and five years later people are quoting it as gospel.

:drive: Shift it!
Please explain how you chirped the tires in 2nd with the CVT. I'm curious...

I don't own a CVT. Hence, I used the :drive: dude actually shifting in my original post.

I got it on my dash cam too.

When the PDK was initially introduced, you could get either the old Tiptronic system or the PDK or a manual. Comparisons showed the PDK was faster in track testing. The techs I knew that went to the training were blown away by the Panamera Turbo S as it would actually hang right with the Turbo 911 when outfitted with the PDK. :o

I wish these people had a different set of roads to drive on and parking lots to park in. It would make our life a lot nicer. 8-)

You're right, that was very poorly worded. They banned the computer shifting the DSG automatically, it must be shifted by the driver.
