I forgot while posting this. I've got to clean it up for the meet this coming weekend, so I'll take some pics after she's clean.

It will be super for them to fix it! Keeping fingers crossed.

We're anxiously awaiting picture--since most of us won't be at the meet.

once this is sorted, could you post up some images for the rest of us to use as comparison and perhaps even to help approve a warranty claim such as this on our cars?

OK, so I met with the Suzuki Midwest Service Writer this morning. He did a pretty indepth walk around of the car and even took some pictures with a microscopic digital camera thingy. He stated that he does believe there is something wrong in the paint process and that the only way it will be fixed properly is to chemically strip the car to bare metal, and start from the begining. He went on to say that barring a clean carfax and approval from the bean-counters in California, he doesn't see any issues with the warranty claim. I kind of expected this since my thinking was the car is still under warranty, right?

WRONG! My car has almost 47,000 miles on it. This didn't matter much until the Bodyshop Manager (Jesse) pulled me aside later. Jesse stated that he and Mr. Suzuki had spoken about my paint issue in depth before my arrival (I was running late for reasons I will explain later) and Jesse was informed that the paint warranty is actually part of the 3 year/36,000 muile bumper-to-bumper warranty. Jesse stated that if I were driving a Ford or a Kia (the brands that they sell now) and put the 36,001st mile on the car driving it to the appointment, I would have been told to hit the road Jack! He stated he was unbelievably surprised when Mr. Suzuki said they were most likely going to pay anyway a good faith gesture. (this left both me and Jesse wondering if he knows how involved with these forums I am...)

Mr. Suzuki then left (he had driven all the way from Suburban Chicago to Bloomington Indiana specifically to see our car) to write and send his report to the giant talking heads in California for thier approval and sent me down the hill to Jesse's domain for an estimate. Jesse compilied the estimate and informed me that Mr. Suzuki had alread alluded to a $4,800 ceiling to include all labor for the disassembly, chemical strip, paint, and reassembly of the car. After everything was completed by Jesse, the estimate I recieved totaled just over $5800, so I'm waiting to see what they plan on doing with the $1000 discrepency, and was promised a final answer by the end of the week.

On the 58 mile journey this morning, I had to stop and call the dealership to inform then I would be late. I GPS'ed the route from Terre Haute to University Motorcars in Bloomington Indiana and took US46 as instructed by Google Maps. Everything went fine for the first 5 miles or so, then apparently I missed the memo that every state highway in Indiana would be under construction at the same time, for whatever reason, and soley to make what is normally a beautiful and almost theraputic drive morph completely into a drive on the highway to hell. I had to drive on nearly 25 miles of freshly spray tar (I know, I had to wait in line for nearly 20 minutes to pass the spray truck), then drive the remaining 30 or so miles at 45 mph through every construction zone know to mankind. BTW, the spray truck and crew were the only people I actually saw working the entire time.

I actually had every intension of taking before pictures and posting this evening, but due to the 25 mile drive through the tarpits of southern Indiana, My poor car is now completely covered in black polka dots. Combine those with the white flaking paint and the Vivid red OEM paint, and my wife's pride and joy now looks like a long lost Jackson Pollock painting...

I do have to add, I have never had quite the dealership experience that I have with University Motorcars. Jesse had really gone out of his way to help however he could and the service team is knowlegeable and completely respectful. When the inevidable time comes to replace our Suzukis, I believe I will look here first as my good-faith gesture. If anyone reading this is in the area, I couldn't recommend these guys more. Truly a class act in every way.

Look for updates as I get then, and I promise I will add photos this weekend!
