God, I hate mat black carsCLLee wrote:Speaking to my cousin in Malaysia, Mazda only began to gain some attention about 8-10 years ago, and only shortly after that a company began importing them solely. It's still a market dominated by Toyota and Honda, and Merc and BMW in the higher end.
They only have ONE trim for the new Mazda 3 (2.0L with leather+HID+18"+MZD, but without HUD). Selling at RM139,000 (~AUS$48,000).
Most other cars are only given a choice of a lower and upper trim. It's a market that puts badge prestige and segment size over most other things.
The Kizashi was launched there in 2011/12, I think and was sold for around RM150,000 (~AUS$52,000). Most reviews centred around the car being a C segment charging a D segment price - "would rather buy a Camry or Accord with more leg room, more executive, etc"
From what I heard, they are not selling well, and to date my cousin has not seen one in Kuala Lumpur.
Here's their latest attempt to grab some attention:

HIDs are available here in Oz and Malaysia, but it's not Bi-Xenon.
There's a separate reflector for the high beam and projector for the HID low beam.
I doubt they redesigned the whole headlight for that purpose. Chances are, Bi-Xenon is quite common now and the reporter made a mistake.

Ever looked at the specs of reversing cameras? They're usually PAL or NTSC (ie an analogue signal of 576i or 480i), which means they're not even close to 720 lines. That head unit is also a Kenwood DNX530BT, which lists the external video input as being PAL or NTSC - so there's no way the reversing camera picture is HD.~tc~ wrote:Absolutely. Only takes 720 to make it "HD", and we know HIDs are available in other markets.murcod wrote:A High Definition reversing camera? Bi Xenon headlights?

The HID bit has been explained. They've either got Malaysian only Bixenon headlights or it's low beam only for HID. You can tell by looking at the head light picture below they're the same as the Aussie head lights with a halogen bulb for high beam. If they were Bixenon it would be a different headlight design.
