Not having anything much better to do, I figured I'd try to get the best fuel economy I could based the on the average fuel economy display on the dash. So I babied it out of the hole, coasted in both neutral and drive when appropriated, kept my speed down on the interstate bit, etc. You know, hyper-miling. My goal was to have the display stay above 30. My typical daily drive to work is evenly distributed between neighborhoods, main roads and interstate for 17 miles. The good news is I was able to have the display above 30 on two consecutive tanks. The bad news is that the actual calculated was 29 and 28.5 so if you try to go by the display, it's probably not very accurate. It was a bit of a challenge sticking to it since most of the fuel wasting is accomplished through acceleration whether on take-off, passing or just having fun. My typical mileage, calculated, is 26-27 pretty consistently. It will be higher if I've made a longer highway trip. It rarely drops below 26 and I don't baby it. My average speed was 32 so that will come into play as well.
The real question now is whether a one or two miles per gallon increase in fuel economy would be enough to change my driving habits? Not when when gas is hovering around $2 a gallon.
So is anyone up to a challenge to see how good your mileage can be?

My dash display is over 30 mpg every single tank. It is about 2-3 mpg over the actual. You can check my fuelly below. My commute is 55 miles each way with 90% highway between 70-80mph. My average mph is about 50mph.
